Although Arthur is one of the largest chimpanzees here at the sanctuary, he is not the Alpha of his family! To become an Alpha, it is not only about size and strength. An individual must first want to be the Alpha and then prove to his family that he is fit for the role. #chimpanzee

National Best Friend Day🐵☀️ There are so many amazing friendships at our sanctuary, but we have chosen to feature these two for such a special day. Limbani and Tuffy’s friendship continues to grow stronger in Special Needs. Our goal is for every resident to leave Special Needs and join a larger family group on an island and it is these types of interactions and bonds that lead to our residents being ready🌿 #bestfriend #chimpanzee #bestfriendday

Brett and Miller alarm calling🚨🔊 Chimpanzee alarm calls are sophisticated signals conveying contextual details about threats, intended recipients, and desired actions, crucial for group survival in the wild! Here at the Sanctuary we typically hear these calls when chimpanzees spot other wildlife or, like in this case, in response to hearing chimps vocalizing on other islands.
