Angela Shen said it best: mushroom foraging is basically an adult Easter egg hunt. We got to adventure into the forest near Kirkland with Angela, founder of Forage Seattle, to discover the wild and wonderful world of mushroom foraging. The day consisted of spotting tiny mushrooms growing on Douglas fir cones, hunting for prized chanterelles and lobster mushrooms. Seattle Refined’s Brandon Burnstead learned that some pretty incredible ingredients are hiding right beneath our feet. At this 40-year-old Seattle restaurant, one bathroom has a mystery to solve, while the other is filled with some seriously awkward family photos. Welcome to Seattle’s Best Bathrooms, our series highlighting the area’s most unique bathrooms. Our FINAL feature of this series is Bizzarro Italian Cafe, the wonderfully eclectic Wallingford restaurant that’s been serving up pasta and plenty of personality since 1986 (40 years!!!). Step inside one bathroom and you’ll hear a mysterious recording rattling off around 700 names, along with some very bizarre descriptions. Then there’s the bathroom covered in awkward family photos. Coffee, pastries and stained glass can be found in this new Seattle cafe. Café Blameless is now open inside a 100-year-old church in Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood, turning the big, beautiful space into a gathering place for coffee, food, work and catching up. The independent, nonreligious café is still in a soft opening phase, serving up Gloom and Elm coffee and a limited menu for now, but soon they will bring in pastries from Cloudy Cafe, sandwiches, paninis and more. We always eagerly await seeing what The Edgewater Hotel will do for spooky season each year. Introducing: Little Haunted Lobby Bar 🍸 Open now through Nov. 1, this Halloween pop-up bar is equal parts festive and classy. The hotel’s lobby is decked out with cob webs, skulls and more floor-to-ceiling decor.  When it comes to cocktails, we suggest the Blood Transfusion, a vodka drink that comes in a cauldron and a blood bag. This bar's bottle collection extends all the way to the bathroom. Welcome to Seattle's Best Bathrooms, our series highlighting the area's most unique bathrooms.  This week, we’re at Canon, the intimate Capitol Hill restaurant and cocktail bar known for its creative drinks and massive spirits collection (more than 4,000 labels and counting). One of the bathrooms at Canon was actually owner Jamie’s office for a bit when the bar first opened. Once he was able to give them a major glow-up, he designed it around his vision for the entire bar: what the space might look like if it had always been a bar, surviving Prohibition and evolving over the decades?  The bathrooms also solved another very Canon problem: they were running out of room for bottles. So the bathroom became another place to showcase them, part storage and part decor. We’ll have our FINAL Best Bathroom for you next week!
