This song was unexpectedly hard. There is no time to breathe! Phrasing is important to supply the vocal cords with enough air to support vocal cord vibration. My phrasing on this needs some work! #oliviadean #manineed #vocals #vocalcords #voicedoctor

Vocal runs are one of the hallmarks of R&B music. You can see on the laryngoscopy exam that runs involve modulation of the whole throat, not just the vocal cords. Getting comfortable with flexible laryngoscopy takes practice! It takes repetition. It takes good coordination. Itās a process to get comfortable with scoping, but when you do, it opens a whole new world (pun intended) into new ways to help patients! #vocalcords #throatscope #voicedoctor #medicaleducation #residencylife

Kudos to the Baylor University Medical Center emergency medicine residents (doctors in training) who are learning to do flexible laryngoscopy! Itās traditionally done by ENTs, but who is to say Emergency Medicine canāt incorporate it into their practice? No one! Hopefully it will be more common in EM practices in the future. Learning points: 1. A deviated nasal septum can make it hard to get the scope through the nose. It if isnāt going through easily, try going through the other side of the nose 2. Stay LOW in the nose. There is generally more space to get the scope through and it is more of a straight shot at the level of the nasal floor. 3. Aim slightlyAWAY from the middle of the nose/nasal septum, as this is the area most likely to hurt and bleed if the scope is pushed against it. 4. Try to keep the scope relatively straight when you are in the nose. If you curve it too much, it will get caught and be hard to push through. Less curvature is more! #vocalcords #emergencymedicine #residencylife #voicedoctor #emresident

My first time scoping myself in front of an audience (except for karaoke š)! Iām normally in my office by myself or with just a few people. This was a little nerve-wracking, but super fun! I had one shot to get it right! š„“ Thanks to Dr. Karina Reyner and the Baylor University Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency for having me as part of the presentation on ENT in the emergency department! #voicedoctor #aladdin #awholenewworld #vocalcords #emergencymedicine

SOVTs, or semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, are super helpful to find the āright spotā for your voice. By partially closing your mouth, you create back pressure that helps to support vocal fold closure without additional muscular tension. #vocals #sovt #vocalexercise #vocalexercises #vocalcords

Some singers have FAST vibrato. Adriana Caselotti sang āIām Wishingā from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. She had a unique vibrato that is also described by some as tremolo. I tried to emulate her unique sound in this song. Do you think itās tremolo or vibrato? #vibrato #vocalcords #snowwhite #voicedoctor #singingvideo

I always tell singers that if your voice isnāt at its best, you shouldnāt sing your most challenging repertoire. I chose this song because I love it, but also because the range is lower so I didnāt have to worry as much about possibly straining my voice when Iām a bit under the weather. #voicedoctor #vocalcords #voicecare #chrisstapleton #tennesseewhiskey

A larger vocal tract amplifies lower frequencies in the voice which creates a richer, darker tone. A smaller vocal tract amplifies higher frequencies in the voice which creates a brighter, thinner tone. Think lion versus mouse. š¦š #vocaltract #voicedoctor #scienceofsinging #voicescience

Stroboscopy shows how the vocal cords vibrate together. Regular laryngoscopy doesnāt show vibration. You are āgetting scopedā either way. It is the TECHNOLOGY that is different! #comolaflor #selena #latinpop #vocalcords #latinmusic

Same aria. Different technology. Stroboscopy slows down vocal cord vibration so we can see how the vocal cords are actually connecting with singing or speaking. Laryngoscopy alone canāt do this. Stroboscopy is very important for a full voice evaluation!
