Dozens of Catholics gathered for a prayer service on a snowy Sunday to remember the people killed by ICE either directly like Renee Good or through neglect or negligence in ICE detention. #DelaneyHall #LetUsPray #prayerispowerful #jeanwilsonbrutus #reneenicolegood

We are outraged and heartbroken by the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, mother, poet, and beloved member of her community, who was shot in the face and killed by a federal ICE agent during an enforcement operation. Let us be clear: A woman was confronted by armed agents. A gun was aimed at her face. The trigger was pulled. A life was taken. This was not an abstraction. This was not a policy debate. This was a human being — made in the image of God — killed by the state. As women religious, and as people of faith, we reject the dangerous normalization of lethal force as an acceptable tool of enforcement. When government power meets human vulnerability with a loaded weapon, something has gone profoundly wrong — morally, spiritually, and socially. We are grateful for the bold and truthful witness of the National Catholic Reporter @ncronline, which has named this moment for what it is: a call to moral resistance. We continue to echo that call. Silence, neutrality, and procedural language are not faithful responses when human life is taken in our name. Catholic faith has never asked us to be polite in the face of injustice. Our tradition — from the prophets to the Gospel to the witness of women religious throughout history — demands that we resist systems that dehumanize, even when that resistance is uncomfortable or costly. We do not need to wait for official narratives to settle. We do not need to debate whether fear was justified. The taking of a life demands moral clarity, not euphemism. This is a moment for Catholics to move beyond thoughts and prayers — toward action, accountability, and sustained resistance to violence disguised as order. We stand with Renee’s family. We grieve with her community. And we recommit ourselves to the work of holy trouble — because faith that does not disrupt injustice is not the faith the Gospel calls us to live.

Like Elizabeth Seton, let us only do our best and leave the rest to God.” — Sister Donna Dodge, SC From Mount Saint Vincent, we raised our voices for justice, dignity, and the moral courage to act. #catholicsisters #justiceforall #faithinaction #sistersofcharityny #humandignity #elizabethseton #speakout #sistersspeakout Edited by: @alidesignconsulting

“You send me, Sr. Marie!” That was the message delivered from staff & students at Elizabeth Seton Children’s this week, when they traveled to visit Sr. Marie Morris & the Sisters at Kittay. Sr. Marie volunteered for many years with the ministry & was delighted to see so many familiar faces & a couple of new ones, too.

Does it bother you like it does our nun dolls, how many ways empire has found to abuse children in the U.S.? They’re not just doing it to our children either. Starting a war and killing a school full of girls should be called a war crime, not an accident. They may only be dolls but they also remember the Epstein files & the names in those files, including empire’s leader. Some of them are scared. That’s why they’re asking you; “Please vote early before another child is harmed.” P.S. Early voting in NY 10/24 - 11/1

WE WHO ARE BECOMING. 🔥 God of thunder and tenderness, of holy disruption and boundless love, Awaken in us the fire we have too long kept hidden. May we recognize the divine not only in the heavens above, but in the sacred dignity of every human life. May we become who we were created to be. Not spectators to suffering, but witnesses to truth. Not guardians of comfort, but makers of justice. Not voices silenced by fear, but voices raised in love. Give us the courage to disturb what must be disturbed, to dismantle what must be dismantled, and to build a world where every person can flourish. And when the winds of change begin to rise, may we remember that Your Spirit has never been confined to a gentle breeze. Sometimes, Lord, Your Spirit comes as fire. May we have the courage to become the people that fire is calling us to be. Amen. 🔥 Inspired by “We Who Are Becoming” from Reading the Bible with the Poor People’s Campaign and the words of Frederick Douglass.

“They mock it then steal it. I asked Al why white America degrades Black culture while copying it — and told it not to soften the answer. In this I Asked AI episode, I break down AI’s unfiltered answer on cultural appropriation vs Black culture: how contempt and desire work together, from Black hair discrimination, braids and the CROWN Act, to lips, body and features, to the lazy myth vs the GI Bill, FHA mortgages and the racial wealth gap, to Black educational achievement and why copying is a confession. Plain English. No dodging.” Part of @thepeoplesreporter fantastic series on YouTube where Laurissa gets the brutal truth from AI about the history of racism in America.

Love is not a loophole in the Gospel. It IS the Gospel. God’s love has never required anyone to be someone other than who they were created to be. Love is God’s orientation. May it always be ours, too. 🌈❤️

🌱💚 Some seeds are planted for a season. Others are planted for generations. Wonderful news from Sisters Hill Farm! After years of nurturing the earth, feeding families, building community, and sharing the harvest with neighbors in need, our beloved Sisters Hill Farm has found a prospective buyer committed to preserving its future. For the Sisters of Charity of New York, this is more than welcome news about a piece of land. It is hope for the continuation of a mission rooted in reverence for creation, care for our neighbors, and the belief that the gifts of the earth are meant to be shared. What began as a vision of the Sisters grew into something extraordinary through the dedication of Sr. Mary Ann Garisto, Farmer Dave Hambleton, generations of apprentices, volunteers, and a community that understood the farm was always about more than vegetables. It was about relationships. Justice. Stewardship. Love. While the next chapter is still unfolding, we are filled with gratitude and hope. Because the greatest measure of a ministry is not how long we hold on to it, but how deeply its mission takes root. And at Sisters Hill Farm, those roots run deep. 🌻 Read the wonderful news from The New Pine Plains Herald at the link in today’s story! https://bit.ly/4zAfBdO

Even in the darkest moments, there are those who refuse to let the light go out. Earlier this year, outside Delaney Hall, when we gathered to remember lives lost in ICE custody, small flames became sacred reminders that every life matters, every death deserves to be mourned, and every act of love pushes back against the darkness. Today’s Alleluia reminds us that we are called to shine like lights in the world. And sometimes, the smallest lights shine the brightest. May we never stop carrying them. 🕯️💛

Today, at the No Kings rallies, tens of thousands of voices joined together across the country, all with the same message, VOTE! “Keep on Walking Forward,” written by Pat Humphries, carries a message of perseverance that has echoed through generations of struggles for justice. Racism is not confined to the South or to the distant past. Its history reaches into communities across this country, including New York. And its legacy reminds us how easily hatred can be passed from one generation to the next. But hatred is not an inheritance we are required to accept. Today, a chorus of voices reminded us of something worth holding close: We can remember the past without repeating it. We can confront hatred without surrendering to it. And we can believe that love will have the final word. 🎥 https://youtu.be/BHYl8AmwpaQ
