Dexter Story returns with new music. The full album ‘T’som’ is officially out on October 30th alongside the vinyl LP. The album title T'som, pronounced “sawm”, translates to fasting in Tigrinya, Amharic, and Arabic. Across different communities, this spiritual practice is rooted in fasting, prayer, discipline, self-reflection and letting go. Guided by this tradition, Dexter draws on the musical heritage of the Horn of Africa and musical traditions of the Middle East to create a spiritual jazz album that reflects on devotion, transformation and the power of letting go. Antiyano Progresivo: Musical Experiments from the Former Dutch Caribbean, 1968-1986 is the result of eight years of research, uncovering lost psych, rock, disco and Latin gems from Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, recorded between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s. The vinyl LP and full album are officially out on October 9th 💥 Across the former Dutch Caribbean, a community of musicians created music that crossed genre boundaries. For nearly three decades, they shared stages and creative ideas across the islands, forming a close-knit network shaped by common histories and identities, while rarely receiving wider recognition. Their recordings were released locally, often in small runs, and many were never properly archived. Antiyano Progresivo is dedicated to these artists, many of whom were well known locally, but whose most adventurous music remained largely unheard. Lancelot Layne - Umbawa is a track featured on the compilation. Lancelot was a leading voice in the movement for change, active in marches and community events across Trinidad. As protests peaked in 1970, his song Blow’ Way became an unexpected anthem for a society confronting itself. Layne continued pushing radio stations to make space for a new sound rooted in Trinidad’s national language, using music to educate and empower. A key voice in the fight for an Emancipation holiday. Sensational Roots led by Pelham Goddard did just that - channelled core rhythms of the people of Trinidad to the music they created both for live audiences and in studios.
