Exactly one year ago, I lost my mother, and since then, life has never been the same. Grieving her has been a roller coaster. I never knew you could be homesick for a person. To miss someone so deeply, knowing you'll never be able to see them again. But what breaks my heart the most isn't just that I lost my mom—it's that my son lost his grandmother. She wasn't just his grandmother. She was his Patty, his best friend, his confidant, his ride or die, the one who spoiled him, his second mom, and without a doubt, his favorite person in the whole world. Watching him grieve her has been the hardest part of this journey. A year has passed, but grief doesn't follow a calendar.
