A woman who was subjected to years of coercive control, threats and physical abuse by her partner has told STV News she now regards him as “evil” and “a monster” after seeing him jailed for three years. Marcus Sinclair from High Valleyfield in Fife was also given a non-harassment order banning him from contact with Angela Selling for 20 years. Sinclair was convicted of engaging in abusive behaviour towards his former partner which was further aggravated by involving prejudice relating to race, colour, nationality, or ethnic or national origins. The court heard how Sinclair left his partner unconscious on one occasion, after causing her to strike her head against the floor, spat in her face and seized her by the throat and struck her head against a bannister. Following his conviction, Angela said that it was important for him to be “held accountable” #judge #court #crime #update #report

Martin O’Neill admits Celtic have to find a way to win in Europe after suffering a third straight Europa League defeat with a 2-1 loss to Spanish side Celta Vigo at Parkhead. Looking to get back on track after defeats by Ferencvaros and Benfica in their first two league phase fixtures, Germany midfielder Mika Baur fired the home side in front just over a minute into the second half and for a short spell it looked like Celtic could go on and get those elusive first three points. However, Spain international Javi Rodriguez scored twice in three minutes – a header then an unstoppable drive – to leave the Hoops with no points from nine in the league phase with five fixtures remaining. #uk #scotland #news #glasgow #celtic

Andy Burnham has pledged the UK will meet its net zero target despite approving the Jackdaw gas field, saying the decision will strengthen energy security. On Wednesday, ministers announced the Jackdaw gas field, 150 miles east of Aberdeen in Scotland, had been approved after years of uncertainty and a court case. The decision drew criticism from some Labour backbenchers and environmentalists, while Conservatives called on the Government to also approve the Rosebank oil field, west of Shetland in Scotland’s north. #uk #scotland #politics #oilandgas #aberdeen #jackdaw #rosebank

Communities in the front line of the Cairngorms wildfire believe they face a “race against time” to prevent a repeat of the summer’s widespread destruction. As calls grow for an independent inquiry into the response to the blaze, an action plan for the future is taking shape. A 20-square mile stretch of the Cairngorms landscape was destroyed as the flames ravaged the hills over a period of five weeks. The cause of the blaze remains a mystery. There was no loss of life, property was preserved but wildlife and fragile habitats suffered along with many businesses as a wide cordon was enforced across entry points to one of the UK’s most popular tourist spots. A blueprint being drawn up to protect the area in future may still be a long way off and the clock is ticking. Justice Secretary Neil Gray said: "The Cairngorm wildfire was an exceptionally challenging incident and a multi-agency review and debrief of the incident has been commissioned by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland and Highland Council. Ministers will consider the findings and recommendations of this review carefully. "I am very grateful for the work of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) in responding to wildfires, and we are ensuring we are taking every possible step to tackle the increased threat. That is why I have commissioned a review of the Wildfire Strategic Action Plan. "We are committed to ensuring these reviews are inclusive, drawing on the views of local communities, public agencies and the wide range of those involved in the wildfire response. #news #environment #scotland #wildfire #update

Early on Saturday morning, Storm Boelo arrives, pushing into western Scotland and persisting throughout the entire weekend. It looks set to bring heavy bursts of rain, particularly over higher ground, with further heavy showers and rain constantly wrapping around the centre of the storm and moving west to east across the country. The winds associated with Storm Boelo are the most concerning part. We currently have a yellow weather warning covering the whole of Scotland from 6pm Saturday until 9pm Sunday where widely we could see gusts of 55-60mph and some higher ground areas and coastal parts seeing gusts of 80mph. Storm Boelo will finally move away overnight Sunday into Monday when we start to see the winds easing and dying out. #uk #scotland #news
