Mission Farrier School students got a rare opportunity at the wild horse corrals in Hines, Oregon. Trimming untouched Mustang feet in the squeeze chute. There’s nothing quite like studying the hoof of a feral horse in person. Real horses. Real hoof care. Real experience. #MissionFarrierSchool #Mustang #WildHorse #BLMMustang #Farrier

Tail tying is an old-school skill worth teaching. It builds patience, confidence, and teaches a horse to give to pressure. #Horsemanship #HorseTraining #TailTying #RanchHorse #PackHorse

Fighting the Grasshopper Fire in Wasco county Oregon. When the Flag Point radio repeater burned, the fire service needed another temporary repeater. We offered to pack it in horseback to Postage Stamp Butte. The fire continues to rage and we will fight it for every inch. #oregongrasshopperfire #horsepacking #wildfire #MissionFarrierSchool

A few ideas on introducing the flag to the unconfident horse. #horsemanship

A few thoughts on why a person might choose to show their horse, even if the ring is not there usual horse activity of choice. #mustangshow #imha #internationalmustanghorseassociation

Tonight was a big one. Malakai roped his first live steer. He’s an 11 year old Trisomy 9p warrior. And he wants to grow up to be like just like @Dale Brisby At 11, he’s already gentled a wild mustang, ridden steers — and now he’s getting his roping dialed in. Ranch roping isn’t just swinging a rope. It’s timing, rate, body control, and feel. It teaches a rider how to track a steer, manage slack, ride with purpose. It builds coordination, grit, and real-deal horsemanship — the kind you can’t fake. Malakai works twice as hard for every milestone. Nothing is handed to him. And in our family, we don’t tell him what he can’t do. This wasn’t about catching one perfect. It was about showing up. It was about courage. It was about a young cowboy taking his shot. And he’ll keep taking them. #RanchRoping #Trisomy9p #SpecialNeedsCowboy #AdaptiveAthlete #firstaranchroping

The ideal way to move cattle horseback is in a long mostly single file line, mimicking the way they travel naturally. Low stress and the calves can take their time. #westernstyle #vaquerohorsemanship #BigCountry #ranchhorse #Stockmanship

We spent some time with, an interviewed the late great Bob Avila shortly before he passed away. He shared a lot of insight and we were particularly interested in what he had to say about Hackmore’s and developing the Hackmore horse.

Here’s how I tie a lead rope or mecate to the saddle horn—the same way I’ve done it horseback, on the ranch, and in day-to-day horsemanship. No gimmicks, no shortcuts—just a knot that holds when it needs to and comes loose when you ask it to. Whether you’re handling a colt, ponying a horse, or just want cleaner horsemanship, the little details. #CowboyHorsemanship #Mecate #RanchLife #HorseTraining #Stockmanship

Little bit of info on how to put away and store a Hackamore after you’re done using it… #liveequestrian #jaquimareinsman #Mecate

Good tack care matters. Here’s how I store my mecates to keep them clean, soft, and holding their shape so they’re ready to work when I need them. Simple habits like this help quality gear last for years, not seasons. #Horsemanship #Mecate #TackCare #VaqueroStyle #MustangLife

Trailer loading isn’t about getting a horse into the trailer. It’s about helping the horse find peace inside the trailer. At Mission Farrier School, students learn how to approach trailer loading with patience, clarity, and feel—especially with mustangs. Slow it down. Let the horse think. Reward the try. When the mind relaxes, the body follows. #MissionFarrierSchool #MustangTraining #TrailerLoading #Horsemanship #GentleTraining

Teaching a BLM Mustang to hobble This isn’t about tying a horse down—it’s about building confidence, patience, and trust. Hobble training teaches a mustang how to think instead of panic when pressure shows up. Done right, it creates a calmer, safer horse—for the trail, the ranch, and real life. Watch how I introduce it in this early step. Would you hobble your horse? ⸻ #BLMMustang #MustangTraining #Horsemanship #ColtStarting #WildToWilling

Watching my son Malachi step into the arena with his mustang Hot Wheels has been one of the proudest moments of my life. This isn’t just about competition—it’s about patience, trust, and giving a mustang a real chance. From first touch to show day, this journey is what the Teens & Oregon Mustangs Challenge is all about. Every horse—and every kid—deserve an opportunity. #TeensAndOregonMustangs #OregonMustangs #MustangChallenge #MustangAdoption #BLMMustang

My daughter and I did a little pack trip with these mustangs. We rode a stretch with my buddy Scott and his boy Scouts who do 190 mile ride over several days...East Mt Hood country. Quite a few movies have been filmed around this area including • The Shining (1980) • All the Young Men (1960) • Bend of the River (1952) • Lost Horizon (1973) • Doctor Sleep (2019) • Wild (2014) • Green Room (2015) • Old Joy (2006). #mthood #vaquerohorsemanship #mustangchallenge #mthoodnationalforest

This is my son Malakai — a Trisomy 9p warrior 💜 — and his horse, Hot Wheels. They faced and ovecame many challenges during their time together including evacuation for a wildfire. Through it all, Malakai shows strength, courage, and joy that reminds us what really matters. Horses heal. Love endures. And warriors come in all sizes. #Trisomy9PWarrior #HotWheelsHorse #FireEvacuation #HorseStrong #FollowTheFrankes
