5G compatible since 1971 🗼 How long do you think you could make it through the Co-360? During this manoeuvre, the solos pull 5G (without G pants) for over 15 seconds. At two points, the opposing solo must also make the miss on the lead solo who is inside the turn circle. This year we’re actually flying 270 degrees but in other years, a third cross is added to make it 360 degrees, which means an additional 5 seconds at 5G 😨 Compatible avec 5G depuis 1971 🗼 Combien de temps pensez-vous pouvoir rester conscient lors du Co-360 ? Durant cette manœuvre, les solos subissent une accélération de 5G (sans pantalon anti-G) pendant plus de 15 secondes. How long did you watch? 👀 The mirror roll requires constant focus as we are overlapped. As the lead solo (above/inverted), I have to meet precise altitude and attitude gates to start the manoeuvre and as I reach the horizon. If at any point I must abort the manoeuvre, I must still complete the roll back to inverted and make sure the opposing solo is clear of me before doing anything else. As the opposing solo (pictured), you are listening to calls and focusing on a small part of the other jet as it rolls. When fully overlapped, the opposing solo just sees the nose and part of the leading edge of the other jet’s wing. Immense training and trust is required to fly this manoeuvre successfully. When everything lines up perfectly, you get this iconic Snowbirds manoeuvre 🙌 #snowbirds55 #snowbirds #airshowatlantic @Air Show Atlantic

The other 4-way perspective 😳 If you think solo crosses are crazy, imagine how it is to follow a plane in formation only for them to roll towards you while two other planes cross a mere wingspan in the opposite direction. Probably one of the coolest shots when it works is seeing all four planes occupying the same space in front of the crowd. Did you catch our Victoria show? Here’s my perspective during the flip flop. I roll upside down on the line, then call our roll at show center, where Snowbird 9 rolls upside down and I go upright. Unlike most crosses where I don’t see the opposing solo during the manoeuvre, I can see SB 9 cross as I roll right side up. Low visibility warning ⚠️ Flying in clouds is part of normal transits, but it can be much more complex in formation, especially with all nine of us. My primary reference flying outside of Snowbird 2 is looking at the boss’s tail. However, depending on the thickness of the clouds, I have to alternate between Snowbird 2 and 1 to stay in position. Thicker clouds are typically bumpier as well, which invites overcorrections or larger errors, adding to the challenge. And finally, without external references to the horizon, your inner ear makes you think you’re in a constant descending turn when in formation 😵‍💫. Needless to say, we try to avoid flying through such clouds as much as possible 😅 #snowbirds #flying

After years of trying to bring back this manoeuvre, we were able to train to the Mirror Roll for the 2026 Snowbirds show season. It is my favourite manoeuvre for two reasons: it’s hard to execute, and it looks amazing when it works. As the lead solo, I have to fly a precise profile against the clock. I have 20 seconds once inverted to get the nose up, roll 360 degrees, and roll out. The entire time inverted, I am focusing on the G-meter to maintain a precise G as I roll (you can see that in the video) and I am also checking my altitude and attitude to make sure I can safely recover as I commit to rolling back upside down. Given those restraints, the opposing solo has to plug in quickly and hang on as I roll around. With our overlap, there is constant interaction between both planes making both our jobs more challenging. But when it works, you get that iconic “Top Gun” roll that Snowbirds Solos have been known for. The challenge and the reward makes this my favourite manoeuvre this season.
