THE BARRY CAN’T SWIM LONER INTERVIEW !!!! Loner offers a totally new side of @barrycantswim, in a celebratory sophomore album that i fell in love w all over again after this chat we talk abt the Rosetti ribbon monster that’s all over the album art; imposter syndrome and writer’s block; the friends Josh collaborated with to be the voice and aesthetic of the album; his favorite sample; the distance he created between himself and the Barry Can’t Swim persona; and how he went abt reintegrating the two to find himself again in order to make Loner love how an interview can bring you from appreciating music as a fan to understanding what it represents emotionally and artistically to the artist, you almost get to listen to the album for the first time all over again and it ends up meaning even more when you revisit it thru the artist’s lens. I learned so much abt this amazing record during this chat and Josh was so real abt everything he poured into making it. One of my favorite interviews to date :) Enjoy this convo and listen to Loner! out now on @ninjatune Song ID: Still Riding - Barry Can’t Swim #barrycantswim #loner #artistinterview #edmtok #electronicmusic #dancemusic #creatorsearchinsights

i don’t talk abt pop much on here but @Bella Kay had me crying at the airport. in the same way it moved me to see an all Asian cast in Crazy Rich Asians, it’s so refreshing to hear someone speak to their actual experience within a genre that so often defaults to painting on a blank identity-less canvas (i mean this specific in terms of race / racial experience) — w extremely arresting, direct, heartfelt songwriting. one of those moments when u don’t realize how much u needed a song till you’ve heard it. song ids: A Father’s Lament - Bella Kay Air Forces - Mustafa #bellakay #pop #popmusic #newmusic

Next in 50 Bands Scoring New York: james K 🐇🍃🌫️🌀🎲 james K is in a constant state of evolution, scene to scene, project to project — very much like the city she grew up in and has been helping shape artistically for the last decade. Her latest chapter Friend finds her inviting trip hop and shoegaze into her experimental practice to flip the script on pop. And it was one of my favorite albums from last year. Listen to james K and other acts i love in nyc in the 50 Bands playlistttt updated at my bio #jamesk #nycmusic #newyork #musicrecommendations

My first Primavera Sound had a lot of surprises in store — yes, the rain. But also surprise headliners and amazing sets all at a multi-genre, all-night festival that straddles both beach and city. One of the dreamiest settings to get lost and discover. My first but not my last. #primaverasound #primavera #musicfestival #festival

The narrative of identity dissonance in @Charli XCX’s post-Brat era. I made a vid abt how “Rock Music” was Charli breaking the fourth wall of her ‘mockumentary’ The Moment. Now she steps through the screen in “SS26,” to sit in the theater she’s built and watch what she created unfold alongside the rest of us. After a massive album that built sm cultural capital and momentum, it makes sense that any artist would examine the weight of it all — and that the answers (or lack thereof) would influence the next move. Part of Charli’s brilliance is continuing to air out her personal interrogation of celebrity and artistry in the art itself, making it part of the music’s narrative so that we continue to experience the Brat arc, and live through not only The Moment but what happens after it ends. Also side theory / hope is that Charli keeps leveraging and celebrating the music video medium in this new era. SS26 is an earworm fs but it’s the video that really drives home the meta auteurism. Obv makes sense for an artist who’s increasingly involved in cinema these days, but also bring back mtv know what I mean ??? Song ID: SS26 - Charli XCX #charlixcx #ss26
