In loving memory of our dear friend, model and muse Sahara Ray. A note from our founder, Alana Pallister. I wanted to share a little about our journey with Sahara, as she was a huge part of the success and build of this company and somebody who was a part of the A&S family for 13+ years. When I met Sahara, I was travelling over to Indonesia to shoot a campaign. At the time, I was shooting most of our photographs, taking all of our behind-the-scenes content and running our social media. A friend had shown me Sahara on Tumblr. She had never modelled before, so I reached out and sent her a message on Tumblr, and the next day she replied, "I was so excited!" Before modelling, Sahara was a famous surfer. We met up to shoot at Hotel Mexicola with another Australian model, Mimi Ellishry, I was mesmerised by her beauty but also her spirit she was just one big giant ray of light beaming all over the building while we shot the campaign which was a campaign that really put Tiger Mist on the map. After that, Sahara became the face of Tiger Mist, and she and I travelled to many countries together to shoot the campaigns, me behind the camera and Sahara as our muse. It was Sahara who was a huge influence on me bringing the business to America. The dream to land Tiger Mist on Nasty Gal, the website, after I read the book Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, was a huge inspiration, and Sahara was living in downtown Los Angeles at the time. I travelled over for a trade show with a few suitcases, set up a wholesale booth at the Long Beach trade convention, and asked everyone with a booth there to please tell me when the Nasty Gal buyers came by. They eventually did, and a few months later Stevie and I were back in the Nasty Gal head office selling the products to them. After that, I made the decision to spend more time in LA to build the business and moved in with Sahara. We would shoot all of our website imagery in her bedroom, in a loft in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, as well as all of our BTS content for social media. I took 100,000,000s of photos of Sahara, and while working together, our friendship became a sisterhood. I continued back and forth between LA and Australia, with a few more trips to Bali with Sahara. On one of those trips I thought of a new brand after having breakfast with her in the morning. I always wanted to do a lingerie brand, and one morning we went for breakfast and she got a plate of eggs and covered it in salt and sauce. I was laughing my head off, like, "Girl, do you want some breakfast with that salt and sauce?" And so our new lingerie business, "Salt and Sauce intimates," was born. After that, we would run around shooting Rise of Dawn, our first established brand, Rise Basics, another, and our new baby, Salt and Sauce intimates, along with Tiger Mist. We were busy girls. When I finally decided to move over to the States, before getting a place, I lived with Sahara in an apartment directly across from our current office. The bedroom window looks over the office today. Little did I know, 10 years later it would be the home of our HQ. Sahara was a giant ray of sunshine and embodied all the true qualities of a TM babe: fun, vivacious, kind, adventurous, a girl's girl, empathetic, humorous and very witty. Our friendship was like no other, and I'll cherish that forever. Our favourite movie was the movie Gia, which was a huge inspiration behind I Am Gia. Sahara embodied everything I wanted I Am Gia to become. Gia was created because at the time, Tiger Mist was in debt. We had oversold wholesale and had run out of capital. We had been talking with investors, mostly corporate big firms, trying to undervalue a business we had worked so hard to build during some very difficult times, like my sister and business partner Stevie’s journey with cancer. I remember the night Gia came to me so clearly, floating in a deprivation flotation tank, thinking, "Man, I feel like Gia Carangi right now. Just like Gia, we had shot to fame, but the corpo
