In the thick of onboarding season...another full day of awesome county education. Thank you to Dennis and the rest of our Correctional Institute staff for the hospitality and great food. Kevin in Central Services and Jorge in Public Works for their informational presentations. So many moving parts to county government and we got the opportunity to go on a field trip to not only the landfill (Mount Trashmore) but the Spout Springs Water Reclamation Facility. A full Hall County day today. Started off this morning with the East Hall marching band on our whirlwind tour of our feeder elementary schools. Tadmore and Sandra Deal before lunch and after headed to the Fire Services training center for Mark and I's next session with Chief Smith and deputy chiefs Martin and Cash over Fire Services. Lastly, followed that up with Emergency Services and the 911 call center Met all kinds of great people today and saw some really neat parts of our county operations. The annual showdown in District 3 is this Friday night so if you're driving down Mt. Vernon Rd wondering why North Hall HS has cars everywhere that night, there ya go. The next Stakeholder and Steering Committee meeting for our Comprehensive Plan major update renewal will be meeting next Monday, September 21st at 6pm. While the committees have their own selected members already, any member of the public can view and watch how the process works and what is coming out of these committees to be submitted in front of the Board of Commissioners in February of 2027. Also, do not forget the Open House/Engagement Meeting #1 on Tuesday, September 29th. This meeting next Monday will have limited opportunity for public input and is more oversight. If you've been following along with Hall County Government and specifically the Planning & Zoning side, you probably have heard of the Comprehensive Plan more in the past year than the entire time you've been following along. Several reasons for that but the most important part is the Comp Plan is really supposed to be influenced by YOU, the People. It is a requirement from the State through the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA) but above and beyond that, it is meant to truly guide what the People want to see in their community. While the 2024 plan is currently seeing a minor update in some of the allowances in character areas and changes to definitions that should be addressed at the September 10th Voting Meeting, the traditional 3.5 year "Major" update is progressing as expected leading up to the June 20th, 2027 major update presentation. The Major update can really put things on the table: Do you have concerns with the Character Areas, Overlay zones, and Future Land Use map? Bring that up. Do you want to see an incentivized zone in rural areas for minor "subdivisions" with lessened restrictions on frontage, road access, permitting, etc for privately owned development on large lots (2+ acre)? Do you have problems with certain uses allowed in certain zones or Character Areas? This Major update is the time to address any and all concerns. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th at 6pm in the North Hall Community Center. Meeting #2 would be on Tuesday, October 6th at 6pm in the Government Center. Meeting #3 would on Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm in the East Hall Community Center. Meeting #4 would be on Tuesday, October 20th at 6pm in the Blackshear Place Library. Meeting #5 is currently TBD (open to suggestions I'm sure). Please try and make plans to attend a meeting. The District 3 feedback to the minor update back in June was well recorded. We had more feedback in District 3 than the rest of the district meetings combined. People in District 3 are concerned about the growth and awareness and interest in these meetings is the best way to be informed about what can or should happen. Also, huge thanks to our Planning staff and the work they put in. A lot of great things happening in Planning and Zoning so if you engage at the meetings, there's some names to faces you'll see! #hallcountyga
