Everyone deserves to Get Home Safely from work ✊ Yet nearly 6 in 10 workers say their employer has never provided safe transport home. From hospitality to healthcare, workers shouldn’t have to worry about getting home safely after a shift. Unite is callling for employers and local governments across the UK to take action. We're calling for: 🚕 Safe, free transport home – make free transport home a licensing condition for hospitality venues operating late at night. 🤝 Extend employers’ duty of care – require employers to assess the risks of workers’ journeys and introduce safe transport home policies, including paying for taxis where possible for staff finishing after 11pm. 🚌 Better public transport – invest in safe, reliable and more frequent buses, including night and off-peak services, with municipal ownership to help rebuild our bus networks. 🚨 Zero tolerance for sexual harassment – introduce mandatory training for transport workers, strengthen laws and enforcement, and ensure CCTV is working. 🚖 Stronger taxi safety standards – introduce national minimum standards and end cross-border hiring to improve passenger safety, particularly for women. Every worker deserves to finish their shift and get home safely. It’s the bank holiday weekend, and Coll from The Skotia has taken to the streets of Glasgow to ask people for their most controversial opinions about work and what they think needs to change for workers 👀 Here’s the most popular consensus: Workers need better pay, fairer hours and a better work-life balance 💬 Secure jobs, decent pay and fair conditions are exactly what our union fights for. So, if you agree with some of these hot takes, maybe it’s time to join a union. ✊ #Union #Work #WorkMeme #UnpopularOpinion #WorkersRights

Stop punishing the poor. Start taxing profits 📣 After years of working people bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis, it’s time to make the companies raking in huge profits on the back of it pay their fair share. London Unite community member Kay explains why we need an economy that works for working people, not just the wealthy. #wealthtax #profiteering #peoplebeforeprofit #ukeconomy #wealthinequality

🚨 SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS NOT PART OF THE JOB. No worker should have to put up with sexual harassment from customers, clients or anyone else while they’re at work. In hospitality, too many workers face unwanted comments, advances and inappropriate behaviour – and too often, they’re expected to just put up with it. That has to change. New legal protections on the 30th October mean employers must take action to prevent sexual harassment by third parties, such as customers and clients. Our union is standing up for workers and giving reps the tools to challenge harassment and hold employers accountable. We’ve developed resources and a toolkit to help reps understand the law, support members and make workplaces safer for everyone. Harassment is never just part of the job. Know your rights. Challenge it. Take action with our toolkit by searching 'Unite the union zero tolerance' #SexualHarassment #HospitalityWorkers #WorkersRights #TradeUnions #EndWorkplaceHarassment

Behind every flight are workers who deserve to do their jobs without fear of abuse, intimidation or violence. No worker should have to put up with this. And no one should have to sacrifice their mental health to earn a living. Abuse like this should never be part of the job. That’s why Unite is demanding tougher action against abusive passengers, coordinated bans for serious and repeat offenders, and minimum safety standards to protect workers across airports and airlines. It takes workers standing together, challenging discrimination and making sure every voice is heard for us to create fair workplaces ✊ That’s why equality is key in workplaces and why equality reps are so important in the trade union movement - because they help tackle inequality in the workplace, support members facing discrimination and fight for fair treatment for everyone. From challenging racism and sexism to fighting for disability rights and LGBTQ+ equality, their work helps make our workplaces fairer and our union stronger. As, Unite's equality conference kicks off, here is Executive Council member of Unite the Union representing all Black, and Asian Ethnic Minority (BAEM) members at TUC Congress sharing why this is a collective fight - and why we all have a part to play. 💶 We start paying the 20% tax rate when we earn £12,570. 🥶 This threshold has been frozen since 2022. 📈 If it had risen with inflation, it would be £16,600. This costs the average worker £2,200. ❓How much extra tax are you paying? Find out with our Stealth Tax Calculator, online from Unite #FairTaxes #Budget2026

Bin strikes are about to hit Havering! 🗑️   Workers have had enough of poor conditions and low pay, and were pushed to the limit during this summer's heatwaves.   While they earn barely above the minimum wage, their employer FCC Waste rakes it in with their contract to provide outsourced services.   We asked the good people of Romford whether they thought this was fair. Do you work in aviation? Abuse, threats, intimidation and violence should NEVER be part of the job 📣 For far too long, airport staff and cabin crew have faced unacceptable behaviour simply while trying to do their jobs. Every aviation worker deserves to feel safe, respected and protected at work, without fear of abuse or violence. We’re calling for: ✊ A clear, national, worker-led plan to tackle abusive passengers. ❌ Airlines and airports working together to ban seriously abusive and disruptive passengers. 📝 Strong minimum industry standards to protect workers and ensure they get the support they need. Let’s stand together and put an end to aviation abuse. Every worker deserves to feel safe at work. Danny Dyer just floated a 30-foot inflatable pile of poo down the River Thames - but the problems with privatised water in England and Wales are putting us in EVEN deeper 💩 Around 90% of the world’s water is publicly owned. Yet in England and Wales, we’ve continued on a *failed* privatised system. For too long, water companies have been allowed to extract cash from an essential public service, putting profits before people, public health and the environment. The result? Polluted rivers, soaring bills and raw sewage dumped into our waterways while bills soar. It’s no wonder more than 350,000 people have signed a petition demanding public ownership of the water industry to stop sewage pollution. t’s time to end this failed experiment. Bring our water back into public hands 🚰 #PublicOwnership #Water #Privatisation #Sewage #uknews

As households are about to face the highest energy price cap in three years this, here’s Novo asking the public if they know the REAL price of energy profiteering 😳 Energy bills rise by 4% from October, after climbing 13% at the start of July 😳 Households in Great Britain will pay the equivalent of £1,723 a year for gas and electricity, after months of rising market prices have already caused the government’s price cap to rise for the second time in three months. Household energy bills have been one of the biggest contributors to high inflation. And while households pay the price, privatised energy companies are cashing in amid the crisis. Last year, our report found that public ownership could have saved us all nearly £45 billion in 2022 – over £1,800 per household. 💰Energy companies made a total of £30 billion in pre-tax profits. 🏠 Average household pays £500 a year in energy profits It’s time to pull the plug on energy profiteering🔌 The question is no longer: 'can we afford to nationalise?' It’s how long can we afford not to 📣 [#energy #energybills #heating #costofliving #costoflivingcrisis profiteering]

Last autumn, this restaurant owner and Reform councillor said this on LBC ▶️ 😳 Meanwhile, a recent study by Barnardo’s found that more than half of young people in England have been forced out of job, apprenticeship or training opportunities because they couldn’t afford the costs involved, like travel, clothes or childcare. Young people shouldn’t be priced out of building their future before they’ve even had the chance to start. For too long, young workers have been seen as cheap labour. But everyone deserves decent work and fair, liveable pay, no matter their age. That means creating decent job opportunities ANS ensuring liveable wages . Our union stands with every young person fighting for the jobs, pay and conditions they deserve ✊ #youngworkers #youngworker #neet #livingwage #liveablewage

Why hundreds of people marched through east London this weekend 📹 Our union joined other trade unionist, faith groups and local communities marching across East London standing together against division in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. In 1936, more than 100,000 ordinary people stood in solidarity to push back against the fascist Blackshirts when they tried to march through the heart of London’s Jewish community driven by antisemitism, racism and prejudice. 90 years on, the message from those who stood up remains as important as ever: unity is stronger than division 📣 #cablestreet #eastlondon #workingclasshistory #london

Abuse should never be considered ‘part of the job’ but for too many airport and aviation workers, verbal abuse, intimidation, aggression and violence are a regular reality at work. Our survey of more than 300 workers across Scotland’s major airports found More than 90% regularly experienced verbal abuse, Over 75% experienced intimidation or aggression and almost 1 in 3 had experienced physical assault. Workers are being pushed out of the aviation industry, while the abuse is also taking a toll on workers’ mental health. From ground handlers and passenger service assistants to security staff and cabin crew, everyone working to keep our airports and airlines running deserves to feel safe from the airport to the aircraft 📣 That’s why we’re calling for a unionised, worker-led approach to tackling abusive and disruptive passenger behaviour and protecting aviation workers. Should young people just 'work harder'? 💬 Here are the real facts: 📉 Young people are facing a tougher jobs market: Between December 2022 and December 2025, the share of 16–24-year-olds in payrolled employment fell - and we need major investment in good unionised jobs to provide the opportunities future generations deserve. 💷 Pay hasn’t kept pace: The IFS found that median earnings for 25-year-olds have barely changed in real terms over the past two decades while cost have risen hugely. Meanwhile, age related pay bands mean under 21s get paid less for the same work. So when young people are struggling to get ahead, maybe the question shouldn't just be “Are they working hard enough?” but how we must keep fighting so young people can secure jobs for the future, fight for fair pay and get conditions they deserve. Our union is fighting for investment in the future and fair wages for ALL ages. Household energy bills are forecast to see biggest rise in FOUR years 😳 This month, prices are set to go up under regulator Ofgem's October price cap. Meanwhile, privatised energy companies have continued to profiteer while people struggle to keep up with their bills. When is enough, enough?   Unite Community member Kay explains why privatisation has failed and why we need a complete overhaul of the energy market based on public ownership to drive down bills and end profiteering.   Last autumn, Unite published its Energy Profiteering report, which found that the UK’s privatised energy system and company profits are major factors behind high household energy bills.   In 2024, energy companies made a total of £30 billion in profits. The report found that the average household is paying around £500 of its energy bill towards private company profits.   We're calling for the renationalisation of the UK’s energy system.   “It’s time to end the chaos in our energy network which allows profiteers to flourish while workers and communities are left in the cold… public ownership could help ease the cost of living crisis, aid industrial competitiveness and be a part of the solution to the climate crisis” 💬 - @unitesharon #EnergyBills #EnergyCrisis #PublicOwnership #RenationaliseEnergy #CostOfLiving

With inflation at 3.1%, could you take a pay cut of 13.5%? 📉 The Forest School in Snaresbrook charges secondary fees of over £10,000 a term, but is cutting the contract for the workers who keep students fed and facilities safe and clean by seven weeks. That means that staff earning below the London Living Wage will see significantly less money in their pocket each year, while the school's headteacher takes home at least £300,000 annually. @unitesharon: "Unite will never stand for our members having a pay cut. They are being treated disgracefully and have our full support during this dispute." 💬 #strike #privateschool #education #forestschool #londonlife e17 east London

Workers pay their fair share- so the super-rich should too 📣 Working people pay tax from their wages every payday, while the wealthiest can have access to tax planning and structures that can reduce their effective tax bills and some push back against a wealth tax. Ian explains why that isn’t a fair system. We’re campaigning for a wealth tax and fairer tax thresholds for working people, so those with the greatest wealth contribute fairly, while ordinary workers aren’t continually asked to shoulder the burden. A fair economy means a fair tax system. It’s time to make the system work for ordinary people ✊ #Tax #wealthtax #taxthresholds #taxtherich #incometax

The Battle of Cable Street isn't just embedded in the social and political history of our movement: for many of us it's personal, too. Tower Hamlets Trades Council secretary, antifascist and housing activist Glyn Robbins even held his civil partnership ceremony reception by the mural! For the ninetieth anniversary of the Battle, we're honouring the strong, organised working-class movement that defended the diverse and largely Jewish East End from fascism and hate. We'll celebrate their solidarity through collective joy. You can find out more about the anniversary in the comments below, and wish Glyn a happy anniversary while you're at it! #eastlondon #londonlife #workingclasshistory #workingclass #unity

Fridge Raiders, Richmond Sausages and Mr Brains could be missing from supermarket shelves across the UK as workers in Enniskillen continue their strike. Pilgrim's Europe made £128 million in profit. But the workers who make its products say they’re struggling to make ends meet 😳 Our survey found 81% have cut back on food because of financial pressures, 79% have worked overtime to make ends meet and some workers are taking on multiple jobs just to get by Now, workers are taking continuous strike action for decent pay and to end a system where morning-shift workers are the only shift workers who don’t receive fully paid breaks. Our survey of more than 300 workers across Scotland’s major airports found: over 90% regularly experienced verbal abuse, over 75% experienced intimidation or aggression and nearly a third experienced physical assault. This widespread issue is pushing the workers that keep airlines running to leave the industry with wide impact on mental health. We spoke to spoke to Erin about how common these scenarios are.
