Our Founder/CEO, VR Small, shares what influence truly means and it's not about titles. In this powerful feature with Influencial Women, VR reflects on her journey through the military, corporate, nonprofit, academia and entrepreneurship to true servant leadership and an understanding of why influence is something entrusted to us, not possessed. VR offers bold, heartfelt advice to younger women chasing their dreams: ❤️ Don't try to fit into someone else's expectations, ❤️ Take the opportunity before you feel ready, and ❤️ When the door won't open, build another one. We want to thank Influential Women for celebrating leaders like VR Small whose contributions are making a real impact in their communities and beyond. If this resonates with you, share it with a woman in your life who needs to hear it today. #InfluentialWomen #VRSmall #WomenInLeadership #VWEC #WomenEntrepreneurs

There's nothing more important than knowing and truly understandimg your preferred client. I use the term "preferred" because your product/service may be purchased by various people, but your preferred client is the individuals you designed the product/service for. They don't have a problem with your price because they value what you're offering. It's meets their specific problem or need. When they think of your product/service, they say, "This was made for me." What do your current clients think about your product/service? If it's designed right, you're not selling anything. You're simply meeting a need. @Brianna Jovahn #client #acquisition #smallbusiness #entrepreneur #womeninbusiness

Why the South-Central Region with a New Mexico Kick-Off The small business sector in the South-Central region—Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico is not only widespread, but also foundational to the economy. New Mexico Small businesses accounted for 46% of the state’s export value in 2021, exporting $2.5 billion in goods, driving economic impact well beyond their scale. (Coleman Report) In New Mexico: (SBA Office of Advocacy) 📍 Small businesses make up approximately 99% of all businesses in the state. 📍 They employ over 53% of the workforce, exceeding the national average. 📍 There are more than 150,000+ small businesses statewide, forming the backbone of the economy. 📍 75% of small businesses have no employees, and and of those with employees 94% have fewer than 10 employees. Ownership diversity is significant: * 47.1% are women‑owned. * 34.0% are Hispanic‑owned. * 11.00% are Racial Minorities * 7.6% are veteran‑owned. These figures illustrate both the strength and complexity of New Mexico’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Yet despite this scale, capital readiness, the ability to access, deploy, and sustain capital strategically, often lags behind entrepreneurial energy. This last point is critical. New Mexico is not just a small business economy; it’s a micro-business economy. Even more telling: small employer firms account for nearly half of private employment, yet many remain undercapitalized and under-supported. The AEO South Central Region Tour powered by BOK Financial, Empowering Entrepreneurial Capital Readiness is designed to: ✔️ Close the gap between entrepreneurs and capital providers. ✔️ Strengthens trust and relationships with lenders. ✔️ Equip entrepreneurs with the tools to become fundable and scalable. ✔️ Align ecosystem partners around data-driven, outcome-based support. The Albuquerque kickoff is intentional. It centers a market where small businesses dominate the economy, but where capital access, financial infrastructure, and credit readiness must evolve to match that scale. The Bank of Albuquerque will kick off the tour, hosting VWEC’s long-standing Breakfast with a Banker, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 9:00 A.M. at the Bank of Albuquerque Corporate Office 100 Sun Ave NE, Suite 500 This in‑person event provides entrepreneurs with direct access to capital partners and actionable insights into credit development, lending pathways, and financial management strategies, all core components of long‑term sustainability. Leading with Purpose and Intentionality. Remembering March 4th, one year ago. What an incredible honor it is for our CEO, VR Small to be named the Dallas Mavericks 2025 Unsung Hero, at their 4th Annual Women’s Symposium, which was simply amazing. Once again, our entire organization is sincerely thankful to the Dallas Mavericks W.O.M.E.N. (Women of the Mavs Empowering Network) Employee Resource Group for creating such a powerful and inspiring space for women to connect. As we enter our 9th year, it is truly inspiring to know that others see, appreciate, and recognize the value and impact of the work we do at the VWEC. VR has always shared how honored she is to have served her country. Moreover, she often expresses how extremely blessed she is to be able to continue serving her sisters-in-arms through our mission-driven work. Last year’s theme, “EmpowerHER: Leading with Purpose,” aligned beautifully with our mission, and our ongoing commitment to capacity building, and sustainable growth for women entrepreneurs. This year’s symposium is sure to be another unforgettable experience. Get Connected! #EmpowerHER #DallasMavericks #WomensHistoryMonth #UnsungHero #WomenInLeadership

HER Story is Our Story! Ashley Adams VWEC is excited to share another one of our 2025 DSG & NLBT Fellows spotlight—continuing our celebration of the women who are showing up, doing the work, and elevating their businesses with purpose and intention. Each feature offers a meaningful chance to journey with HER, witnessing her determination, creativity, and growth through her own lens. And as always, we invite you to truly lean in. Connect. Partner. Collaborate. Volunteer. When we stand together in support of our entrepreneurs and the communities they serve, we all rise—stronger and higher, together. HER Story: Ashley Adams, Founder, Owner & Instructor, ALA Beauty Studios & Academy Completing the Dallas Strategic Growth Accelerator has been a transformative milestone for ALA Beauty Studios & Academy. Before entering the program, I didn’t fully understand how to measure or track the indicators that drive real business growth. Throughout the program, I learned the language and application of KPIs and Critical Success Factors tools I had heard of, but never knew how to use effectively. One of my biggest accomplishments was building a full one-year forecast for ALA. For the first time, I could clearly see how to scale from where we are today to where we want to be next year. Understanding how to project, measure, and adjust in real time has given me confidence as a leader and clarity in my decision-making. I am deeply thankful to VWEC and the DSG Accelerator for giving me the structure, guidance, and knowledge I needed to grow intentionally. The skills I gained in this program are essential for every business owner, and they have positioned ALA for stronger, smarter, and more sustainable expansion in 2026. ~Ashley Adams Empower Us to Continue to Empower HER Success! HER Story is Our Story! Ty Howard What real impact looks like! VWEC is thrilled to introduce the next feature in our 2025 DSG & NLBT Fellows spotlight series—where we shine a light on the women who are committed to their goals, stretching their leadership, and reshaping their businesses step by step. Each story opens a window into HER world, offering an authentic look at HER grit, HER innovation, and the breakthroughs that define HER journey. And as always, we welcome you to be part of this movement. Engage. Support. Collaborate. Show up for the women who drive our communities forward. Because when we lift HER, we lift us all! HER Story: Ty Howard, Owner, Cake Me Crazy- Turning Strategy Into Results with the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center (VWEC) Working with the Veteran Women Enterprise Center (VWEC) completely transformed the way I approached my business, Cake Me Crazy. For years, I carried a clear vision in my head, but I didn’t always have a structured path to bring that vision to life. Through the VWEC’s guidance and their Strategic Growth Plan framework, I was finally able to take the ideas I’d been carrying for so long and turn them into actionable steps. One of the most powerful tools they helped me create was my SGP (Strategic Growth Plan). With this system in place, I gained clarity, accountability, and a roadmap for what my business should focus on each day, week, and quarter. As I applied what I learned, something incredible happened —I not only reached my fourth-quarter goals, I exceeded them. The structure and discipline from the SGP allowed me to break down big goals into manageable actions. I could see where my business was heading, track my progress with intention, and make adjustments in real time. This shift gave me confidence, momentum, and measurable results. Today, I am already preparing for my first-quarter SGP, equipped with the knowledge and tools to continue growing strategically. With the foundation I built through the VWEC, I now understand exactly where my business is going—quarter after quarter, year after year. The Veteran Women Enterprise Center didn’t just help me plan; they helped me execute, grow, and realize what Cake Me Crazy is truly capable of. ~Ty Howard Empower Us to Continue to Empower HER Success! At VWEC, we don't just share information, we empower application resulting in real-time revenue growth! #StrategicGrowth #DSG #VWEC #BusinessGrowrh #entrepreneurs

HER Story is Our Story! Scymentress Williams VWEC proudly continues our 2025 DSG & NLBT Fellows spotlight series, celebrating the women who are doing the work, embracing the process, and transforming their businesses from the inside out. Each highlight offers a powerful opportunity to walk alongside HER—seeing her determination, her creativity, and her growth through her own eyes. And as always, we invite you to lean in. Connect. Partner. Collaborate. Volunteer. When we come together to support our entrepreneurs and strengthen our communities, we rise higher—together. HER Story: Scymentress Williams, Owner/Race Director, Global Race Management Global Race Management is an endurance event planning organization dedicated to empowering athletes and everyday people by providing comprehensive race management services to create memorable events that promote community and health and wellness. We pride ourselves in being inclusive where we celebrate every step from start to finish. We handle every detail from course design, to permitting, ordering shirts and medals and even making sure that the final finisher gets that coveted banana. With more than 14 years of experience running marathons and another 12 years of planning races for other organizations for free, I knew that it was time to turn my hobby and passion into a business for me. I knew that I had a great idea, and ability to plan races, I just didn't have the structure to elevate the business. I was stuck and confused about how to move it forward. Enter the Dallas Strategic Growth (DSG) Accelerator. This was just what the "Run Gods" ordered. Improved processes, crafting a strategic plan for growth and increased revenue because I was able to immediately implement some things I learned during the four (4) month program. Knowing that I wanted to help others, I partnered with non-profit organizations and even some race management companies to offer my expertise. With the help of the DSG Accelerator, I now have a strategic plan in place to scale my business. I am confident that Global Race Management has the tools needed to be successful.~Scymentress Williams #StrategicGrowth #DSG #BusinessGrowrh #race #global @Scymentress Willi835

Some months are just different, and that's certainly has been true for November. I kicked off November, National Veteran and Military Families Month, Monday, November 3rd at the Salute to Service Cowboys Game with Boeing, the Founding Underwriter for the Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program via the George W. Bush Presidential Center, where I'm a 2019 Alumni. Cheering on our home team, reconnecting with colleagues, and making new friends. It was a night to remember, even though we didn't win-- still love me some Dallas Cowboys! We kicked off what's is usually celebrated as National Veteran Small Business Week with our "#DSG & #NLBT Fellows Finale," and they didn't disappoint. These ladies brought their "A" Game , and they're all winners to us! We continued celebrating #NVSBW on Thursday, November 6th, where I moderated "Partners in Service: Strengthening the Veteran Entrepreneurship Ecosystem" hosted by our partners at AEO (Association for Enterprise Opportunity). Right after this event, I caught the Flu. #HappyVeteransDay to me, but you can't keep a good woman down. Continuing to celebrate National Veterans and Military Families Month. By the end of the next week, Thursday, November 13th, I was able to joined Booker T. Spencer Jr at his inaugural "Texas Startup Summit 2025: Growth, Capital & Community." Where I was honored to discuss "Building Inclusive Entrepreneur Communities" with an impressive group of small business owners. There's no "me" without these amazing people. We closed out VWEC's 2025 Navigating the Nation Small Business Expo (#SBE) Tour in Dallas on Wednesday, November 19th, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center after connecting with Female Veteran Entrepreneurs in , DC; , Ohio; and , Illinois. And with another standing room only crowd, I delivered our signature workshop -- : Six Strategies to Scale Successfully, and it was well received! Many thanks to our 2020 NLBT Alumni Kelli Mumphrey, and 2025 DSG Fellows Ty Howard, Ariska Scott, Sika Lawson, and Scymentress Williams, as well as Sheena Clark for volunteering at our Booth 722. Making their own business connections. The month wasn't over. I had the pleasure of joining Lubbock D. Smith III and his team at Vista Bank for their monthly Business, Banking, & Breakfast: Honoring Our on Friday, November 21st. Here I met one of Dallas 500 Living Legends, a Vietnam Veteran, known to his friends and colleagues as the Godfather: Lucious Williams. Engaged in a lively panel discussion featuring several incredible Veterans, such as Joe Beard, Eric Roman, Paden Sickles, MBA, PMP, CSD, Dr. K.C. Fox, and Rob Holmes still serving our Veterans, our communities and our nation.

HER Story is Our Story! VWEC continues our series of highlights from our 2025 DSG & NLBT Fellows. Another opportunity to truly experience HER journey from HER perspective. As always, we invite you to get connected form partnerships, collaboration, or volunteer to support the needs of our communities through collective action. Together, there's nothing we cannot achieve! HER Story: Sherrell Arrington, Executive Director, Arrington Angels Completing the VWEC program changed more than just my business strategy—it changed me. It pushed me, stretched me, and gave me the confidence and clarity to build Arrington Angels with purpose and precision. Through this journey, I implemented a focused growth plan that led to a substantial increase in revenue through our WRAP Program—confirming that the vision God gave me is not only possible, but prosperous. I expanded our daily meal production, allowing us to serve more children consistently and strengthen the heartbeat of our mission: feeding, nurturing, and empowering our youth. I built a sustainable referral pipeline by forming deeper partnerships with schools, apartment communities, and youth organizations across DFW—opening doors I once prayed for. These relationships ensure that no matter how fast we grow, our impact will grow with us. And by realigning our marketing to truly reflect the needs of the families we serve, we strengthened community engagement and improved revenue performance in ways that feel both strategic and spirit-led. VWEC didn’t just elevate my business—it affirmed my calling. It helped me step boldly into leadership, sharpened my systems, and positioned Arrington Angels to transform even more lives. This program awakened a new level of confidence, resilience, and purpose in me… and I’m walking into the next chapter ready for everything God has for us. ~Sherrel Arrington~ At VWEC, we're not just building businesses, we're transforming lives! I am applying a targeted, high-conversion acquisition strategy that shifts my decisions from guesswork to data-driven action, positioning me to increase interest and enrollment. I am recalibrating my pricing to align with industry standards, confidently standing in my value as a Board-Certified, trauma-informed Mental Health and Personal Development Coach and strengthening the perceived value of the Society.
