Now coming to Wild Kirbys: Craft Videos! For those of you who don’t know, we’ve opened a craft shop! Most of what we make is wildlife-themed, based on our own photography, but I’m also a huge nerd who loves all things macabre, spooky, and just plain weird. Throw in the fact that I’m a punk rocker at heart, and you’ve got a pretty random mix of creations. 😂 So now I’m going to start sharing videos of us making our crafts! Hidden in plain sight! 🐍 (well for me anyway - Matt never misses a snake 😂) We were excited to come across this beautiful corn snake during our trip. The whole group walked by it, but Matt saw it instantly 🤦‍♀️ Their colors and patterns are incredible, but they’re also masters of camouflage when they want to be. Corn snakes are nonvenomous, excellent climbers, and one of nature’s best pest controllers. Encounters like this are always a reminder that slowing down and looking closely can reveal amazing wildlife you might otherwise miss. No Diamondback… yet. 👀 But we did stumble across something just as exciting: gopher tortoise burrows! These underground homes are one of the best signs to see when you’re searching for Eastern Diamondbacks. Why? After finding the pygmy rattlesnake, we kept cruising through the night, but the drought definitely made for a slower evening. We didn’t find many snakes, and unfortunately most of the ones we did spot were on a major road with a surprising amount of traffic. As much as we wanted to stop, some just weren’t worth risking our safety for—including a couple more corn snakes and a cottonmouth. Thankfully, this little guy showed up in a spot where we could safely pull over. Not every road-cruisising night is loaded with snakes, but making good decisions means we get to keep doing this for many more nights to come. 🥰🐍🌙 #findingsnakes #herping #snakes #cornsnakesoftiktok #cuteanimals

National Alligator Day seemed like the perfect excuse to combine two of my favorite things: reptiles and punk rock. 🐊🎸 So I put together a little tribute to one of North America’s greatest conservation success stories. From their incredible comeback from the endangered species list, to the important role they play in keeping wetlands healthy, to the surprisingly easy ways to tell a gator from a croc, there’s a lot more to these swamp legends than most people realize. After a lot of hiking and coming up empty, we finally got our hands on a snake! Sadly, much of the Southeast was dealing with drought conditions 😞. The dry forests and lack of water (where we were pretty sure there was supposed to be water!) were hard to miss. At first we stopped for the birds. Then Matt had to check out this ditch beside the trail and started counting gators — I mean how many gators can fit in one tiny ditch? Turns out, a lot.🐊 The large marsh that all the birds were at, drained into this tiny little stretch of water, and somehow it was absolutely loaded with them. By the end he counted 12 gators. I couldn’t get them all on camera… but managed a few. Just like FL, you don’t go in any body of water in GA. The Southeast is wild, dude. . . #swamp #gator #gators #alligator #alligators

From open marshes to shadowy swamps, Georgia was full of some absolutely beautiful habitats. Here’s a quick little glimpse at some of the places we explored along the way. Just 30 seconds of nature doing its thing. And yes — swamps are beautiful. There’s so much life, movement, and quiet magic packed into them. Think I’m crazy? Time to do a little appreciation video for plants — specifically Spanish moss. I absolutely love this stuff. The way it hangs off the trees, the atmosphere it creates… honestly it makes everything feel a little more wild and magical. First snake of the trip for me: the eastern rat snake, Pantherophis alleghaniensis — formerly known as the yellow rat snake. We were cruising our way out of the forest when Matt spotted this guy stretched out along the side of the road, immediately jumped out, and grabbed him. The video is definitely a little chaotic thanks to the excitement of finding the first snake of the trip… but you can also tell this snake was absolutely not having our Wild Kirbys chaos. 😂 You can even see him start to strike! Welcome to our Georgia herping trip — where the main goal is finding the legendary Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus). Michael has wanted to see one for 13 years, and at this point the snake has become less of an animal and more of a personal vendetta. 23 years together. 12 years married. How do you fit that into a post? One slideshow? You can’t - obviously. But here we go with this. To this guy — still mine, still my favorite. All these years later and you’re still right here beside me… through the hard days, the chaos, the “what the hell are we doing” (often) moments, and one of the toughest years of my life. You didn’t run, didn’t flinch — just stuck with me and held me together when I needed it most. Somehow you’re always joking, always finding a way to make me laugh (stupid bag of fluid) — even when things feel heavy — and I don’t think you even realize how much that’s carried me through. And through all of it, we’ve built this life full of adventures — always chasing the next trip, the next place, the next salamander or snake 😂. I love doing life out there with you just as much as I love the quiet moments in between - (HEY wanderer - is it Diablo time yet?) We’ve got no clue what the future’s doing half the time… but honestly? That’s kind of our thing. We figure it out, we adapt, we keep going — together.
