Meet Manahel al-Otaibi, a fitness instructor and a brave outspoken advocate for womenās rights in Saudi Arabia. In November 2022, she was arrested after posting to Snapchat photos of herself at a shopping mall. In the photos, she was not wearing the abaya, a traditional long-sleeved loose robe. Manahel has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. Manahel has told her family she was beaten by another prisoner and then placed in solitary confinement. Her family and friends are very worried. Join #WriteForRights and call on the Saudi Arabian government to free Manahel. Link in bio. #W4R24

Congratulations to Navi Pillay, the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate! Navi Pillay's commitment to international law, unwavering independence and guiding moral light have made her one of the most respected human rights figures of our time. Not only does this award honour an extraordinary individual, it comes at a time when everything Navi Pillay stands for is coming under increasing attack, as powerful states attempt to hollow out the rule of law and jettison fundamental international rules and norms. Hereās the moment she learned the news, captured this morning at the Nuremberg court by Amnesty Internationalās Secretary General AgnĆØs Callamard.

Attacks on Kyiv have been constant since September. During the day, jet-powered Shahed drones fly over the city, and children in schools can spend days without leaving shelters. They try to continue studying there, but when so many children are crowded into one space, proper learning becomes almost impossible. At night, children do not sleep. If we do not have time to reach a shelter, we hide in the hallway because there are no windows. This has been going on almost continuously for weeks, and it is incredibly hard." this is the testimony of our colleague Olena Kozachenko. For millions of people in Ukraine, harrowing strikes on homes, schools, transport and energy infrastructure have become part of everyday life. International humanitarian law prohibits direct attacks on civilians and civilian objects, as well as indiscriminate attacks. And people under Russian occupation, trapped without food supplies and medical care, are unable to leave because of drone attacks and landmines Civilians must be protected. Russia's war of aggression must stop, and its victims receive #TruthJusticeReparations

"The right to protest is not dependent on government approval. It is protected by the Indian Constitution and international human rights law." Protesters in Delhi and Mumbai are demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumarās resignation amid controversy over the Election Commissionās Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. More than 130 million people have been deleted from electoral rolls since 2025. The authorities have responded by imposing prohibition orders on the protests, arresting hundreds of peaceful protesters, and suspending internet and public transport services. These actions are a blatant attack on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. Those arbitrarily detained must be released at once, and authorities must guarantee their right to protest. #HumanityMustWin

On July 1 2026, @Amnesty released a report documenting the RSFās deadly attacks on El Fasher, Sudan, in October 2025, which killed, displaced, injured, sexually violated, and forcibly displaced hundreds of civilians. As global crises compete for attention, Sudanās suffering must not be ignored. Sudan is the worlds largest humanitarian crisis. In July 2026, @Amnesty stood in unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people and civilians in El Fasher through bold advocacy and powerful campaigning in Kano, Nigeria, home to thousands of Sudanese refugees. As world leaders meet, in New York, for this year's UNGA @amnesty continues this advocacy. We call on world leaders to not forget Sudan, to protect civilians in Sudan.

Fariba Hashimi fled Afghanistan after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Before that, she used to train dressed as a man in an effort to avoid being attacked, in a country where women's rights are heavily restricted. Now in exile, she earned her medal in the women's road race at the Asian Game in Japan, as a part of an Afghan diaspora team. "This silver medal can show a lot of resilience from Afghan women, and I'm really happy," she said. We stand in solidarity with all the women of Afghanistan.

What do you know about the minerals that are used to make your phone? In North and South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of #Congo, M23 control who enters, who leaves, and who profits. For many artisanal miners, violence is a frequent, constant threat. The violations documented in our latest briefing may amount to crimes under international law. Weāre demanding that global companies stop buying gold and coltan from Rwanda until Rwanda ends trafficking of mineral tainted with human rights abuses from eastern DRC.

Artificial intelligence has dominated the news cycle this week, raising questions about how we govern these powerful tools. Amnesty is calling for an international regulatory framework that is not controlled by just a few powerful states and companies. We, instead need a human rights based, international and multistakeholder approach that is inclusive. States must immediately insist on a pause to the development and deployment of the most harmful AI technologies.

Amnesty Internationalās new landmark 1000+page report exposes how the Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity to crush the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising and identifies 87 officials who should be criminally investigated. We call for urgent international criminal justice to end impunity for repeated mass protest killings in Iran.

As the demand for generative AI has snowballed, the scale of the development of these technologies has spun out of control. Complex supply chains are required to power these systems, presenting us with a trail of human rights risks at every step of their production. These design choices must be challenged. They are not inevitable.

Under the guise of a regular job, people are travelling to Russia for the chance to earn money and support their families. Some are promised civilian jobs and made to sign documents in Russian that they canāt understand. Then instead of being taken to a workplace, they ended up on the front line of the war in Ukraine. Human trafficking under international law is when people are recruited through deception, coercion, and/or fraud for the purposes of exploitation. Amnesty International is calling for investigations and accountability for everyone involved in such predatory practices.

The Israeli cabinet statement as captured in Israel Katzās social media posts claiming to treat balloons and kites flown in the Gaza Strip as military drones further strips away any prospects for moments of joy for children in Gaza, who have been denied a childhood by Israelās ongoing genocide. Third states must act and end Israelās genocide. No more impunity for Israelās disregard for international law.

Over a month after Indian police deployed unlawful and deadly force against peaceful protesters at the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led "Chalo Sansad" march, not a single officer in Delhi has been held accountable. On X, the Delhi Police publicly denied any disproportionate use of force, repeating it before Indiaās Supreme Court, describing its handling of the protest as āprofessionalā. Evidence gathered by Amnesty International directly contradicts this account. We call on Indian authorities to order a prompt, impartial and effective investigation into the use of firearms, birdshot ammunition, tear gas, lathis and electric shock weapons against protesters in Delhi and Siwan, and to publish its findings.

Amnesty Internationalās investigation concludes that the attack that killed prominent Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil, and seriously wounded camerawoman Zeinab Faraj in south Lebanon on 22 April 2026, violated international humanitarian law by carrying out a direct attack which failed to distinguish between civilians and military objectives. The attack must be investigated as a war crime. Journalists are civilians. They are protected under international humanitarian law. Amal Khalil spent her life documenting the human cost of war. On that day, she became part of the story herself. The question now is not what happened. The evidence is there. The question is whether there will finally be accountability.

The Niger Delta oil pollution was not simply due to oil theft or sabotage. The real scandal was Shellās pursuit of profit at the expense of peopleās rights. Shell cannot be allowed to take the oil, take the profits and leave the pollution behind. Communities in the Niger Delta deserve truth, justice, clean-up and full remedy.

As the eyes of the world remain fixed on the final stages of the #WorldCup, mass detentions and deportations still threaten local communities across the US. Attacks on our rights and freedoms turn what should be a festival of joy into a festival of fear. We've all seen how the World Cup brings people together like no other event. That is what football is. That is what humanity can be, and humanity must win.

In October and November 2025, Amnesty researchers, visited northeastern #Chad near the border with #Sudan. Here they documented what #civilians have lived through since the war began. Many of the people they spoke to were children. Children who fled under fire were deliberately shot, separated from their families or forced to survive on their own. These are their stories. #ElFasher #keepeyesonsudan
