@juancho.dvm

Roughly 5% of U.S. vets are like us ✊ 5% of 🇺🇸 veterinarians are Hispanic/Latinx… while we make up nearly 20% of the population. In 🇨🇦 this statistic is much lower. Representation matters in veterinary medicine. That’s why I’m proud to serve the spanish speaking community whenever I can, inspire future vets, and raise the bar for diversity in vet med. To every Hispanic/Latin vet, student, technician, assistant, and pet parent: you belong here. You’re seen. You’re needed. 💪 Happy Hispanic Heritage Month 🎉 #hispanicheritagemonth #latinosinvetmed #canada #representationmatters #juanchodvm

READ CAPTION👇🏼 A veterinarian is a DOCTOR of animal health who has trained at a university for at least 8 years to earn a doctoral degree (DVM) and is licensed to provide medical and surgical care for animals. Today’s veterinarians are the ONLY DOCTORS educated to protect the health of both animals and people. Did you know veterinarians also play critical roles in environmental protection, research, food safety, and public health? We treat more than one species, we are highly specialized, we are the definition of REAL DOCTORS! 💭 Veterinarians are living the childhood dream of many people, I guarantee you that most of us have heard this before. For anyone doubting entering this profession, this is your sign to keep that dream alive ⚡️👨‍⚕️⚕️👩‍⚕️ What do you think now, are veterinarians real doctors? #veterinarian #vetlife #veterinarymedicine #viralvet #animalhealth #vettech #animalclinic #doctors #wearfigs #figsambassador #realdoctors

We have something that nobody else has. Cherish it, celebrate it, and always wear it with pride. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. Somos unos chingones 🫶

🙋‍♂️I think I’ll need a translator … 🤣

Just a guy serenading his bird in Spanish 🤌🏼🦜♥️

True story 🤷‍♂️

You just can’t go wrong with @wearfigs 🔥 The new Dark Açai is 💯, and Espresso + Bonsai are back baby 🙌 #wearfigs #figsambassador

It’s guaranteed that if you sing to your pets in Spanish, daily, they will live longer happier live… 😂🫡

If only you knew how I really felt 👎👍😂

This is actually peaceful for me… just another day in the office 🤣

Latinos make up 20.5% of the U.S. population, but only about 7% of employed veterinarians identify as Hispanic or Latino. There is progress. 10.6% of DVM students identify as LatinX or Hispanic, making us the fastest growing DVM student demographic and the second largest racial or ethnic group represented in U.S. veterinary schools. So if you’re part of that 7%, celebrate it! 🇨🇴🩺🐾 Keep showing up. Keep being visible. The next generation is watching. The progress continues. Share this with someone who is part of that 7%! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month ♥️ Sources: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, AAVMC

We’re always vibing tbh 👨🏻‍⚕️♥️🦜#birdlovers

You need it 😎🌞

There’s nothing more fulfilling than hearing these words 🦸‍♂️#ikyk #healthcare

Representation is more than being seen. It’s helping the next generation believe they belong here too. 🇨🇴🩺 If you’re part of that 7%, be damn proud of it. Keep showing up, keep taking up space, and keep being visible. Because it’s hard to be what you can’t see. ❤️ #vetmed #latinos #petparents #hispanicheritagemonth

If only all humans could get along as easily as these two 🥹🦜♥️🐕 Different species, completely different personalities, and somehow best friends. Maybe they know something we don’t 🤔😅 The world would definitely be a much happier place 🌞 #dog #conure #bestfriends

Beware: this is what happens when you bring too much cultura into work … 😂🙌 #latino #doctors #jokes

Being Latino is my super power ⚡️

If you believe in yourself you can make all your dreams come true. Ponte las pilas 🔋

Sometimes all it takes is seeing someone who looks like you, speaks like you, comes from a family like yours, or understands the same things you grew up with to make you think, maybe I can do this too. Being a reflection for others is powerful, that why visibility has always meant something really personal to me. I was born in Colombia, and so much of who I am comes from my family, our culture, the sacrifices, and many failures Growing up, I did not always see people who looked like me or had a story like mine in spaces like veterinary medicine. So I worked to change that. I lacked mentorship / guidance but I still found my way into the profession. It’s wasn’t easy and it often felt lonely, but what got me through was my grit and resilience. I am proud to be a veterinarian, but I am just as proud to be Colombian, Latino, an immigrant, and someone who gets to carry pieces of my family and my culture into every room I walk into. There is something special about Latin@‘s; our culture, our families, our warmth, our stories, and the way we show up for people that allows us to serve our communities in really meaningful ways. So during Hispanic Heritage Month, I hope we celebrate more than just accomplishments. Celebrate where you came from. Celebrate the people who helped get you here. Celebrate the parts of yourself you may have once suppressed Happy Hispanic Heritage Month familia ♥️ #hispanicheritagemonth

They grow up so fast 🥹😪🥳🦜 #1 #petbird

There’s nothing more powerful than love like this 👨🏻‍⚕️🦜

You are not alone. Social media may make you think you are, but in reality we all go through the same struggles behind close doors. We are all human. Go talk to someone even if you feel like you’re not struggling. We all need a healthy outlet to grow, being vulnerable does not = weakness. Compartmentalising your emotions is not a solution, WE NEED YOU IN THIS WORLD. Therapy makes all the difference, I promise ♥️ September is world suicide prevention month, help me spread awareness by sharing this message with a loved one 💪🏼 🧠 #gototherapy #suicidepreventionmonth

Not many healthcare professionals say that they can do it all, but we can. Veterinary medicine is not for the weak 💪🏼😎

🔉Using an ultrasound I did a FAST scan of the chest and abdomen and was able to diagnosed a pericardial effusion / fluid around the heart sac, a significant hemoabdomen / a belly full of blood which I sampled to confirm, and the potential culprit / a multi-cavitated mass. I was able to locate both kidneys separately, I know what some of you may be thinking, but nope that was a mass and not a big ole kidney. 💔 this old lady was 15 years old and I had to break this terrible news to her dad. This happened while juggling other critical cases (ie a dog that drowned / tub dog, a cat with DIC / bleeding out, a cat with severe kidney failure, and had about 3 other stable patients with vomiting and diarrhea), all while helping lead my incredible team. The crazy part is that 5 outpatients were still waiting to be seen. Behind me there was a lot going on that you can’t see 🥵. Busy day. #veterinary #medicine #behindthescences

Interspecies enabling 🤝 … This is what happens when you grow up with 3 dogs 😂🦜♥️🐕 #parrotlover #conure #dogsofcanada #bestfriendsforlife #animallovers
