But I still feel this way every time I see those stripes. 😍 This is actually my new lawn renovation, and as you can see… the crabgrass has definitely made itself at home. 😂🌱 But even with all that crabgrass mixed in, look at those stripes! Fresh seed deserves a strong start. 🌱 After putting down grass seed, one of the first things I reach for is a quality starter fertilizer. In a lawn renovation, prep work is just as important as the seed you’re using! I’m using @HLSG Artimuss which is a turf-type tall fescue blend made up of top-rated cultivars selected using research from the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program The goal is simple: get the seed in contact with the soil. For this renovation, I killed off the existing lawn with multiple rounds of glyphosate and then brought in a blend of topsoil, compost, and sand to create a fresh seedbed while also filling in low areas of the yard. After leveling everything out, we used a walk-behind slice seeder to place the seed directly into the soil. Better seed-to-soil contact = better germination. Once the seed was down, I did these VERY important steps. I’m serious, don’t skip them 👀 🌱 Applied starter fertilizer to support root development 🌱 Sprayed mesotrione to help keep weeds at bay during germination 🌱 Covered everything with peat moss to help retain moisture Making sure there is always moisture for the seed to grow is critical when planting seed. This means watering multiple times per day🌱 By following all of these steps and using Artimuss seed, I saw germination within days! For years we’ve dealt with flooding and standing water in this area of our yard, so we finally decided it was time to install drainage tile! Once the tile was in, we had to fill the trenches back in with a blend of topsoil, compost, sand and peat moss. Thankfully, the @Gravely Axis made moving and placing all that material much easier! 🙌🏻🤩 A lot of lawn improvements happen below the surface, and while they aren’t always the most exciting projects, they can make the biggest difference in the long run! If you’ve ever dealt with yard flooding… you know the struggle 😅 We finally decided enough was enough and installed drainage tile in our yard. And honestly, what better time to tear things up than when the lawn was dead anyway? 😂 Once the tile was installed, we put the cut-out grass/dirt sections back into the trench and filled everything with a sand + topsoil mix.
