Today, Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond had the opportunity to attend the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce Drug & Violence Awareness Expo. What stood out to me wasn’t just the number of organizations in the room, but how many pieces of the community support system were represented: prevention, mental health, recovery, education, public safety, government resources, and community outreach. For RR&B, being in rooms like this matters. Reentry doesn’t happen in isolation. Successful reentry requires partnerships, resources, relationships, and people willing to work together. I had the opportunity to connect, learn, exchange information, and introduce more people to the work we’re building through Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond. Every conversation is another potential connection for the people we serve. We’re not just building programs. We’re building a network of support that can follow people from reentry to recovery and beyond. And we’re just getting started.

Rejection can make you question your worth, your direction, and sometimes even your future. But rejection does not have to define what happens next. That’s why I’m building support groups through Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond that create space for real conversations about rejection, accountability, decision-making, personal growth, and rebuilding after difficult seasons. We’ll also connect these conversations to lessons from my book, Thinking, Deciding, Then Change Equals Success, because the way we think shapes the decisions we make, and those decisions shape the direction of our lives. This is not about being perfect. It’s about being willing to grow. It’s about learning how to respond when a door closes. It’s about understanding that your past, your mistakes, and even rejection itself do not have to become your final chapter. I spent 12 years incarcerated, but I refused to let those years become the definition of my life. Since coming home, I’ve earned multiple degrees, including my MBA, built experience in transportation and logistics, obtained my CDL, stepped into leadership roles, invested in community health and public speaking, and continued building a vision centered on opportunity for people returning home. That journey is why I founded Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond. I know firsthand that coming home is only the beginning. People need more than encouragement. They need access to employment, transportation, mentorship, education, workforce development, entrepreneurship, supportive relationships, and people willing to believe in what their future can become. Transportation and truck-driving opportunities are especially important to me because I’ve lived that path myself. I understand what a career can mean when someone is rebuilding their life and searching for stability, dignity, and a real chance to move forward. Community engagement is another major part of the mission. I want justice-impacted individuals to be seen not simply as people who returned home, but as leaders, workers, business owners, mentors, neighbors, parents, and contributors helping rebuild our communities. This is bigger than one program. We are building a system. Coming home is only the beginning. Movie Review: Whispers of Grace 🎥✨ Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the red carpet premiere of Whispers of Grace, and it was an experience I was truly proud to be a part of. The movie carries a powerful message centered around faith, family, second chances, redemption, and the realities that everyday people face. What stood out to me was that the story felt bigger than entertainment. It touched on the idea that our past does not have to determine our future, and that people can experience hardship, make mistakes, grow, rebuild, and still have a meaningful story to tell. But this night was especially personal for me because my cousin, Qwandra Blu, starred in the film. ❤️ Watching somebody from my own family on the big screen was a different kind of feeling. I wasn’t just watching an actress perform. I was watching someone I know step into her purpose, showcase her talent, and become part of something that can inspire other people. Qwandra, I’m proud of you. Keep pushing, keep growing, and keep walking through every door God puts in front of you. This is one accomplishment, but I believe there is much more ahead. I also want to congratulate Selina Polk, Trey Chaney, the entire cast, crew, producers, writers, and everyone involved in bringing Whispers of Grace to life. Creating a film takes vision, sacrifice, teamwork, and faith, and seeing that vision displayed at the Senator Theatre was beautiful. As someone who believes deeply in second chances, transformation, and helping people build a better future, the message behind this movie connected with me personally as well. Sometimes a movie entertains you. Sometimes a movie makes you think. And sometimes a movie reminds you why stories of redemption deserve to be told. Building Relationships, Creating Opportunities Today was a powerful day of networking, learning, and building relationships at the Maryland small business and procurement event at Rocky Gap. I had the opportunity to connect with some incredible people, learn more about upcoming state procurement opportunities, and gain valuable insight into how small businesses can better position themselves for growth, partnerships, and government contracting. One of the highlights of the day was meeting Maryland Secretary Walter L. Simmons and Delegate Sean A. Stinnett and having the opportunity to personally share my book, Thinking, Deciding, Then Change Equals Success, with both of them. That meant a lot to me because this journey is about much more than business. It is about using my story, experience, education, and leadership to create opportunities for others. Throughout the event, I learned more about opportunities with agencies including the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and other state agencies focused on increasing participation from small, minority, and emerging businesses. I also had the chance to hear about upcoming procurement opportunities, certification programs, contracting pathways, and ways that businesses like Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond LLC can continue building capacity and preparing for future state contracts. Every room matters. Every conversation matters. Every connection matters. I am continuing to position Re-Entry, Recovery & Beyond to grow in the areas of workforce development, transportation, reentry services, training, community engagement, entrepreneurship, and government contracting. I left today with new relationships, new information, new opportunities to research, and an even stronger vision for where we are going next. The mission continues. 🚧 Communication barriers can become opportunity barriers. For many justice-impacted individuals, the hardest part of reentry isn’t just finding a job or housing—it’s being understood. Past experiences, trauma, incarceration, stigma, and a lack of confidence can make communication difficult. At the same time, employers, service providers, and communities may not always understand the unique challenges returning citizens face. Real change begins when we choose to listen before we judge, educate before we assume, and build relationships instead of barriers. Effective communication creates trust. Trust creates opportunity.
