“When I would go out to open up on stage...I wasn't used to playing these big arenas…[so Tom] walks with me out on stage and introduces me to his crowd, you know, ‘cause he was so worried that I didn't feel comfortable. See, he remembers. He never forgets. He remembers what it was like when he was at the level I was.” The second episode of ‘One on One: The Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Official Podcast,’ is out now featuring Lucinda Williams Listen at the link in bio.

“When you have the multitracks, you get to hear what happens after they faded it out in the stereo mix…Usually bands kind of go to a certain point, the energy kind of drops. These guys, once they got into a groove and they got to the outro, they would just keep going. And in some cases what they did was so interesting and so cool, I just decided to let it go all the way to the end.” - Ryan Uylate The extended mix for “Fooled Again (I Don’t LIke It)” is out now. More extended versions of tracks from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ first two studio albums are available on ‘Origins 1971-1978’. Pre-order your copy now. Link in bio.

They played music from another planet to a room packed with manic fans, in one of the most iconic venues in the world. It was an experience so powerful that five decades later we could still remember every chord, every song, every solo.” - @BBC host Bob Harris on The Heartbreakers’ Old Grey Whistle Test performance at The Whisky, 1978 The Old Grey Whistle Test performance is presented in HD for the first time, with audio restored by Ryan Ulyate. "We drove out to California, is what we did, because we didn't want to go to New York. We figured we'd starve either place, and it would be better to starve where it was warm. And we knew the Byrds came from California." – Tom Petty Archival footage courtesy of Jim Lenahan; 1974

“As a mixed-media adventure, the talents of many artists and collaborators converged to advance the story. Everything was very traditional and handmade; extremely labor intensive but intentionally low-fi, reflecting how the kid’s own drawings defined the parallel dimension he enters…Forty pounds of bubblegum-pink clay were required to shoot the stop-motion gum sequence. Overall, the palette was restrained to reflect the drawing tools a kid might have in class like pens, pencils, or highlighter markers, all placed in a blue-lined, abstract limbo.” - Director Peter Sluszka Watch the full “Parade of Loons” music video, starring @Iain Armitage (Young Sheldon) on the Tom Petty @YouTube l: link in bio

“‘Parade of Loons’ is an evocative title, inviting (or even demanding) some creative interpretation of who or what those loons could be. As I listened to the track, I was struck by its energy and pacing, and liked the extended intro, the vibrant chorus, the bridge–it all felt like a dramatic storytelling structure was already in the DNA of the song.” - Director Peter Sluszka on creating the mixed media music video for previously unreleased “Parade of Loons”, starring @Iain Armitage (Young Sheldon).
