[ BLACK SHEEP ] Briefly, Bryan allows himself to think of a life with Casey in it. Curled up between him and Michelle on the sofa, tagging along on deliveries. Before, he hadn’t considered himself ready to be a father. But was it as complicated as he thought? An ear to lend, a hand to hold, a hug to give. Brown curls beneath his chin, a soft kiss goodnight. It’s instinctual, taking care of Casey, and he wants more. If I think about the Rietveld and Fahey brothers too long I almost start crying because what do you mean Kaz gets irrationally angry when Sashka argues with Jesper? What do you mean Kaz gets jealous of Sashka whenever Jesper hugs his brother?? What do you mean the only thing Jesper and Kaz both blame themselves for Sashka getting taken??? What do you mean the only thing Kaz can do to hold onto Sashka is imagine he’s holding Jordie???? What do you mean Kaz is awful to Sashka because in his mind, someone will try to hurt him, and he needs to toughen Sashka up so he doesn’t end up like Kaz????? What do you mean it’s not enough in the end, and Sashka ends up broken anyway? #fanfic #jesperfahey #sixofcrows #shadowandbone #kazbrekker

[ TINY WING ] “Let’s see how long we can go without talking, watch me pretending to sleep.” Sashka didn’t tell Jesper at first, about his nightmares, about what Van Eck did to him, and about his newfound fear of shutting his eyes. Jesper noticed, of course, that his baby brother had changed in a way no one could fix. “I’m next to you, you’re next to nothing.” Jesper at least has a memory to return to. He remembers their mother, he remembers the farm and the warmness of childhood. For Sashka, all his brothers stories about it seem as faint and nonexistent as a dream. “You promised that you’d never leave.” They both promised, to each other and their father, that no matter what they’d stick together. They broke that promise many, many times. “But now all that you’ll do is grieve.” Jesper lost his hold on Sashka one too many times. So now all he has left of his sunny baby brother is a dead-eyed boy. It’s funny how much you can grieve someone who’s still alive.
