Having a solo is an honor. We need to remember to treat it as such! A student who is deserving of a solo and can step up to the plate we put in the effort to remember their choreography in between sessions and make the most out of the OPPORTUNITY THAT YOU ARE EXTENDING TO THEM! #Dance #DanceTeacher #DanceCompetition #DanceStudio #HotTake

No excuses. My job is to teach you the choreography, your job is to retain it and learn it and know it so we can work together on understanding it, executing it, and making it great. If you can’t do your job, I can’t do mine. Dancers PSA: ON GAWD do not walk into a rehearsal not knowing the steps 🚫🧢 #Dance #Dancer #DanceClass #DanceRehearsal #Competition #CompetitionTeam #DanceStudio

There is such a tendency for dancers to go into uncomfortably, to complain, to shift into “I can’t” or “ I won’t” or “ it doesn’t work” when we add in a prop or a costume piece that is challenging to perform with. The reality is, as a dancer, the look the artist, creative director and choreographer decides on is the look. It is your job to make it work. As a teacher who wants to prepare these kids for big jobs in the future, I am here taking a moment to express the importance of having a CAN DO attitude, trying your absolute best when it gets tricky, and pushing what these kids think is possible. BE THE DANCER WHO IS ADAPTABLE🙏🏾⚡️ Crazy robot glasses as part of the costume? No problem… y’all GOT THIS🔥💯💪🏾 love that I used @ladygaga as an example ( who always has amazing performances with elaborate costumes and high demand on her performers as we saw last night during the @recordingacademy ) #Dance #Dancer #DanceClass #Choreographer #CreativeDirector #Props #DanceStudio #DanceRehearsal #DanceCompetition #CompetitionTeam

THIS RIGHT HERE IS IT 💯❤️‍🔥💯 We had the amazing privilege of taking class with Ryan Winkler while she is here for the & Juliet Broadway tour. Class was fantastic, we all had a great time and enjoyed everyone ounce of dance and knowledge that she brought into XCAPE DANCE ACADEMY yesterday! I have worked ENDLESSLY on building what we have at Xcape. From the way we arrange our classes, to the training that we require, to the foundations and history that we instill, to the care for the culture, to the instructors who are carefully curated, to the continual commitment the staff has to training and learning, and to all of us who have had and still have PROFESSIONAL CAREERS in dance (tv, stage, commercial, broadway, tour, festival, artistic direction and more). WHAT WE HAVE AT XCAPE IS TRULY SPECIAL. We build dancers with great foundations, with the skills they need to build careers, and with the confidence they need to move boldly in the world. I AM PROUD. This is not the first time that a guest from out-of-state has told me how special this place is and how PREPARED our dancers are, but every time it makes me even more and more excited about what we do. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HERE🙏🏾❤️‍🔥💯 One of the best compliments I have ever received and I’m gonna take it! BIG THANK YOU to Hult Center Performing Arts for this opportunity! #Dance#Dancer #DanceStudio #DanceClass

A TIME WAS HAD! From birthday night celebrations, to super fans, to those who can’t get enough of the soundtrack, opening night of @andjulietbway at @hultcenter was buzzing with energy and excitement ✨🩷 I had a blast chatting with great people, and hearing about how much they love the opportunity to see an amazing show come through Eugene! THE SHOW RUNS ALL THE WAY THROUGH OCTOBER 11, so go to hultcenter.org, grab a few friends, and get some tickets to experience the magic while it is here! 🎥 @xcreativemediaco @jeremiah_jumel #eugene #broadway #andjuliet #hultcenter #oregon

MUSICALITY IS NOT JUST COUNTS… Don’t get me wrong, counts are IMPORTANT. Everything has account, everything has its timing, everything has its place. But that is not the only place that we should focus when we are trying to get students to understand and connect with music! Check it! #D#Dance#DancerD#DanceStudioJ#Judgedanceteacher

Dance teachers: the performance does NOT start with count 1 of the choreography!👀 It starts the second that first toe crosses the line onto the stage. And it doesn’t end with the final pose. It ends when the last dancer has exited the stage. ENTRANCES AND EXITS ARE CHOREOGRAPHY, they are performance, they hold energy, they tell story, they develop character. They are important!👏🏾 How your dancers enter can establish the character, energy, intention and world of the piece before they ever hit the first count. How they exit can complete the story instead of letting the performance just stop. We spend HOURS thinking about formations, transitions, musicality and choreography. Start giving the entrance and exit that same attention. And more importantly, teach your dancers WHY. We aren’t just teaching kids steps. We’re teaching them how to PERFORM💯💯💯 The entire time they are visible to the audience, they are in the piece. Choreograph the entrance. Choreograph the exit. Create the FULL performance. ##Dance##DanceTeacher##judge##dancecompetition

HUNGRY, THIRSTY, READY FOR DESSERT 🍰 The moment we think we are too cool for school is the moment we lose it all. Don’t get complacent. Know when you have it but also know that having it is a journey and it can always be better and fall in love with that truth. On the contrary, if you are struggling to find it, keep going. So much of getting great at something is being willing to suck. Be willing to look ugly and imperfect do it anyway. Be consistent and you WILL get it… and the we start over 🤣🤣🤣 The journey to being great never ends, and I love that. There is always something to be excited about, always more to learn, and always a higher level to achieve. We are, in fact, hungry, thirsty, and ready for all of the MF dessert 🍨💯👏🏾🙏🏾 dance dancer #D#DanceStudioD#DanceCompanyEugeneOregon

I’m just gonna say it. I don’t know what the solution is to this issue, but I do see how it deeply affects opportunity for certain communities and I’m not here for it. I AM HERE for thinking, for discussion about how we got to this point, and how we can do it differently. I LOVE DANCE. I love what it does for kids. I love what it has done in my own life and for my own family and for so many of us. I don’t like where we are right now as an industry, and I would love to be a part of creating something different. #Dance #Dancer#DanceStudio #DanceStudioOwner#DanceCompetition
