This video was made by a group of young women from Tyneside to expose the extreme sexist abuse they’ve experienced, as part of a project with This Life Collective. No young woman should feel worthless, frightened or unsafe because of the misogyny she experiences at school, online or in everyday life. The language and behaviours these girls describe are not “just banter”. Threats of violence and sexual violence are not jokes. We need honest conversations with boys and young men about respect, equality and healthy relationships. But we must also be clear: misogyny is a choice, and it must be challenged wherever it appears.
