"A staple for most divers top 10 list, I advise to come prepared with a magnifying glass or macro lens! The Costasiella Kuroshimae is a Sacoglossan sea slug and the classic version of 'Shaun the sheep'. This one was pretty small even for them, measuring only 2 or 3mm. What makes it especially fascinating is its ability to perform kleptoplasty, a process where it steals chloroplasts from the algae it eats and stores them in its body, allowing it to harness energy from sunlight through photosynthesis for a short time. Its cute appearance and unique survival adaptations have made it one of the most popular and intriguing sea slugs in marine biology." "The eye of an octopus is an enchanting thing. This Mimic Octopus was found with itself half buried in a hole on a sandy muck dive around Manado. They are able to completely disappear into the sand as they manipulate the seabed beneath them, creating space to accommodate their entire body. "After clumsily taking a video of this same nudi while fighting some very unhelpful current, I watched as the poor guy could no longer hold on and was whisked away onto the sand! After failing to get a useful shot of it's less than glamorous fall from it's perch, I was able to catch up with it in the sand. Flabellina exoptata, also known as the desirable flabellina or Coryphellina exoptata, is a brightly colored species of nudibranch found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific region. This small marine sea slug is admired for its vivid purple, pink, and orange coloration, along with its finger-like cerata that line its back. It usually lives on coral reefs and rocky substrates where hydroids, its primary food source, are abundant. Like many nudibranchs, it can absorb the stinging cells of its prey and reuse them as a defense mechanism against predators. Typically growing up to about 3–5 cm long, Flabellina exoptata is especially popular among underwater photographers and divers because of its striking appearance and delicate movements." It's the resident Bargibanti on the housereef once again, this time in motion picture ! Discovered in 1969 by researcher Georges Bargibant, these tiny seahorses live almost exclusively on specific species of gorgonian coral, particularly those in the genus Muricella. Their bodies are covered in bulbous tubercles that closely match the color and texture of their host coral—typically shades of pink, purple, or yellow—making them nearly invisible to predators and divers alike. Native to the waters of the Indo-Pacific region, Bargibant’s pygmy seahorses are a remarkable example of evolutionary adaptation and specialization, relying on both their camouflage and their limited mobility to survive in delicate reef ecosystems. A true ballerina of the ocean floor! The flamboyant cuttlefish is a small species of cuttlefish found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters, typically inhabiting sandy or muddy seafloors. It grows to about 6–8 cm in length and is notable for its ability to produce rapidly changing color patterns using specialized skin cells called chromatophores. Unlike most cuttlefish, it often moves by walking along the seabed with its arms rather than swimming. Its bright coloration is considered a warning signal (aposematism), as this species is one of the few known cuttlefish to possess toxic tissues. It primarily feeds on small crustaceans and fish, using tentacles to capture prey, and relies on both camouflage and signaling for survival. Another new find ! This time not by myself but by Murex dive guide @fikli_lalenoh. This little guy was really small, wasn't sure what it was at the time, looked like a juvenile of some kind of Nembrotha. Since doing some homework I think I can identify it as a Trapania Sp. 15, certainly one I'd not seen before ! Found quite deep around 25m diving off Bangka Island. A Thin Ghost pipefish, or maybe a young Ornate Ghost Pipefish, not decided yet. A great little specimen either way, with a translucent body. While a great find, unfortunately I didn't get much time with the little guy being right at the end of the dive and at depth. Sometimes that's just the way it goes!
