With topics ranging from the very recent rollbacks in healthcare for trans+ people in Wales, to the EHRC’s regressive guidelines on the exclusion of trans+ people in public spaces, we are so grateful to everyone for showing up to speak with MP’s in support of the protection and liberation of our community. Yesterday we attended @Trans+ Solidarity Alliance’s lobby for trans+ rights at the Houses of Parliament. Our Online Comms Officer @Maxine Heron spoke with volunteer Alfie about the intentions of the day and the reasons people were queuing to speak with MPs inside. "What is a woman?" Is the name of our panel talk at this year's @Lost Village Festival. Join us in the Curious Minds tent this Friday at 1PM where our Online Comms Officer @Maxine Heron will be hosting a deep dive into this question, with help from podcaster, writer and content creator @oenonef! The question of what a woman is has been central to much of the UK's trans+ exclusionary feminism in recent years. This is particularly true since the Supreme Court's ruling last year, which led to rollbacks on trans+ rights due to the EHRC's trans+ exclusionary guidelines on gendered spaces, which came into force earlier this month. How might a trans+ inclusive feminist respond to this question, and why should we care that this exact question is so prevalent in the UK's media and politics? Find out with us on Friday the 28th August, at Lost Village Festival's Curious Minds tent, starting at 1PM. “To her gay and trans fans, I want you to know that she loved you. You know that without me telling you.” Jane Fonda has shared a tribute post in memory of Dolly Parton, who passed yesterday at the age of 80 years old. A queer icon and vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, Dolly will be remembered as a loyal and longstanding ally to us all. In an era of early 2000’s trans+ representation, Dolly also wrote and performed the original song “Travelin’ Thru” for the 2005 independent film Transamerica. Her legacy lives on through her monumental discography spanning across seven decades. She will be dearly missed. 🤍
